Protein shake for extra calories? was created by thePridge
Hey peeps...

I did a search on the forum and it didn't come up too conclusive.

I am thinking of adding 2 - 3 protein shakes a day to my "eating plan"...
Seems I miscalculated and divided the meals by the calories/g of protein, carbs and fats... TWICE...
Net result..I've been eating like f-all...
So I've been eating like 1/4 of what I should be... no wonder I am moeg and HUNGRY...and my fat loss has stopped.

And that explains why I got kak strong and put on good size over Christmas and the festive season... I'd taken a break from said starvation plan and was consuming enough calories to grow...

So I need to slowly increase my calories over the next couple of weeks so that I can eat more to lose more... oh the irony :P

Evox mega grow reckons it's 19g protein per 50g... so that should be around 76cals right?

Would it be cool to chuck in 2-3 shakes of that to help with my calorie intake, but also increasing my solid food?

Any advice would be appreciated...

Ya agreed, the carbs from whole foods are far better. Somes outs pre workout and something complex like potatoes for breakfeast will work well

If you want to drink shakes drink oats shakes. Cook 100g instant oats in the microwave for 1min with a tiny amount of water, add this to a blender with 300ml of milk and 50g whey and some flavor (check the 100% pure supplements range, I like their chocolate flavor) and add 2tablespoons of that. You can substitute 2 meals with that... Its great when you have clients and can't eat before lunch.

A tablespoon or two of peanut butter would also be nice with that.

I tried that, the hard pieces of the peanuts make me want to puke. 10ml olive oil goes down better.

If you can stomach the peanutbutter its good to add it.

free bssa pb is the best pb around lolz.

Gotta agree with jakes. Whole foods are waaay better.

Wot seems to work for me is to keep the shakes to post workout (bout 60g protein powder) and one (30g protein) with breakfast and the other (30g protein powder) between meals. The rest of my calories comes from whole meals. Shakes are just there to supplement your protein intake.

so...I gotta chow like a kilo of chicken breast a day?!
am I right in saying that 1kg chicken breast will be roughly 250 - 300g protein... times 4 gives you around 1000 calories?

so 250g X 4 gives 1000 calories right?
then I need another 1000 - 2000 from carbs and fats.

I calculated my BMR at 2045 using harris-benedict (it works with total weight and not lean mass)

Then maintenance cals:
Sedentary 2444.52
Lightly Active 2801.0125
Moderately Active 3157.505
Very Active 3513.9975
Extra Active 3870.49

So I need to eat kak baie...
Technically... If I am hitting weights 3 mornings a week and cardio then I should be eating around 3000-3500 cals maintenance and 2500-3000 to lose weight.

I believe?

Not hijacking Warren, just trying to add for understanding..

To gain muscle mass we need to be consuming 2g protein for every pound we weigh?
