Weighing your food was created by juiced169
Hi Guys I got a question. I weigh my food so I can calculate how many calories I am getting a day. What I have noticed is when I am preparing my chicken fillets and I weigh them I use about 500g of chicken for 2 meals so I am getting 250g chicken per a meal. I have noticed that once I have finished cooking the chicken it weighs less for some reason the 500g comes down to around 380g to 400g any explanation here? Do I calculate the protein on the raw weight of 500g or the cooked weight of 400g thanks.

Calculate using raw weight.

If you always put limit on everything you do, physical or anything else. It will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.

It weighs less after you've cooked it because of water loss

EDIT: the protein content will still be the same

Then there was this guy who goes by the name of inja who liked to make wise comments and mock people which i dont like as he does this behind his pc were no body can bitch slap him so i gave him a peace of my mind and it turns not that alot of people on this site actually liked this jackass hence my bad karma. I'm going to try to reply in the most diplomatic manner possible, so here it goes.

Juiced your the man, the first one to stand up and say that he's an self righteous, opinionated person (edit). You probably said what many many many forum members think.

I'll personally give you karma everytime you post something just because of that, even if its the biggest load of crap :-).

"Sorry if I offend you its just my point of view"!!!!

What a poesklap to his ego! I'm in kak now.

@beesting was just thinking if you measure your food raw and calculate the protein on that weight you would then be calculating a portion of that weight as water and no protein is in that only the meat itself so would not one say that it is safer to work out the protein on the cooked weight. Let me know what you all think thanks

That is actually a pretty valid point in my opinion. Depending on where you buy your chicken breasts from they actually stick a boatload of water in them to make it heavier.

Well when you get nutritional facts, they are usually based on the raw quantity, sometimes if the nutritional values are given for whatever food once it has been cooked then it will say so but the values given for raw foods have taken into account the water mass and all. This is why say if you want the protein content of 100g raw chicken breasts one source will say 20g P and other will say 25g P, if the values are similar its safe to take the average as the correct value but if you want to ensure that you get the absolute minimum required (say if you are bulking) and the values differ then its safer to go with the lower value. If the sources of the nutritional value are some what accurate and trusted then there wont be much to worry about
