Competing was created by Kuifie
Good day to all

So after some serious thought I decided that I want to compete, even if i do it just once as something of an experience. even if it is just to expand my knowledge on everything from training to diet to supplements to gear. This is my prelim decision.

i spoke to somebody that does compete and i decided the following

1) I will compete either next year April, or the year after, my condition in 10 weeks will be the determining factor.

2) Starting Monday I am again on my serious bulk for the next 10 weeks - add 5-6kgs, gonna be hard but not impossible, not gonna run a cycle at this point in time, not yet. I can still gain good qaulity since i am still young, and should gain nicely if for once, all the elements are on track.

3) I will make some serious changes to diet aswell, with the help of the guy assisting me.

4) bring up all weak points and then after my 10 week bulk and conditioning, We will assess wether I will be able to compete. My weak points currently are traps, upper and lower, qauds, had an recurring knee injury which was a setback, but getting back on track, upper chest, inner chest. abs - (havent trained them in a long time), and little things here and there. But easily fixable since I have been working hard on them over the last couple of weeks.

My current stats are 108kg, gained over the last few weeks.
Bodyfat currently unknown, estimate of 15 perhaps higher, we will see, will measure in two weeks time again to get my starting point,

So here is my qeustions,

1) do you guys think competing is a good idea, even just for the journey of it ?

2) And should I post pictures in 10 weeks time by creating a progress log, will you gents who have knowledge on the subject, give honest feedback on wether I will be able to compete at April, or wether I should work another year to bring up my conditioning ?

3) lastly, at this time like i have stated I wish not to run a cycle in this bulk. There are a few reasons. One is my limited budget. I can either have gear, or a great diet, diet all the way. Secondly as previously said I am on anti depressants for the next six months, I wish not to aggrevate my depression by messing to much with hormones when ending cycle ect. Is this a bad calculated choice ?

I will be asking alot of advice and information when I go down this road, but I also have seen that this community is one that cares.

Thanks

Bodybuilding or fitness, my trainer will advise on that in 2weeks time.

But I've encountered a little snag, my parents arent supportive at all of the idea of me competing, and still living at home will make my life difficult should I continue.

I dont know what to do, at the moment I am saying to them I will still decide, and continue with my bulk and prep and see at the end of the year where its at, if it is still a propblem then, I will have to wait till I am no longer residing at their house, - at least only then another few months, so i can wait it out and continue building on the basis should it be too much of an issue.

But for now my prep is going on. Almost finalised new diet, so i will continue the prep and see

Take the gear, food and shit money and start your own life in your own place. Then move on from there.

Kuifie.. I think it's awesome that you wanna follow this route, provided you have the genetics and drive to really achieve your goal.

May I ask bru, why are your folks against this? I don't have children of my own, but if I did, I'd be overjoyed if my boy or girl came to me and told me they wanna compete. >> this sport will add so much value to your young adult life. Perhaps they are misinformed bru?

Ron, I have a very strong drive once I am passionate about something and will persue that thing to the ends of the earth, this is good and bad, right nou gym is according to them something pleasurable, and i will just make it work, even though its already a shitload of work but i enjoy it.

They want me to focus just on my studies and so on.

But i am going forward with prep, diet is 80% workout out, 4400 cals +-, for now, depending on weight. I do have a limited budget, but I am buying most of my food for this by myself, with money not coming from them, so my choice.

And OUPA i couldnt agree more, but being a student I have to tough it out another few months.

Bru, I LOVE your attitude about this. If this is the way you truly are, you will go VERY far in life my bru. NEVER loose your passion. It's what makes you, who you will become later on in life.

I personally feel that as a young guy, yes your studies are important. But you can learn so many different disciplines from bodybuilding, that will apply and help you in so many aspects of your life, including your studies. And you need to sell this to your parents. Building your body is not all just fun and games >> it's freaking hard work actually.

I also really believe you should have balance in life. Your life [even now where you are at, at this stage] can't possibly revolve around your studies ONLY. You only gonna start to hate it and resent it and it will show in your results.

Follow your dreams bru, don't EVER let anyone stand in your way.

Kuifie I know your pain man. My rentals once asked me if I know the dangers of creatine steroids. No way would I be able to convince them to support bodybuilding.

Ron - I am going to continue with my prep as planned, and I couldnt agree with you more on the things you learn. I have been training serious for about 5 years now, with an unfortunate break in between, but ive learned so much thus far and will continue down this road.

Oneday should I have kids I will gladly let them participate in bodybuilding and assist them where I can.

Pyro - I agree, But Ill reevaluate the situation by years end and decide, but the work must continue now

I agree you should cross a bridge when you come to it and not before. Use the time in between to make sure you make the right decision, as there are many good arguments for both sides. The best case would be to get many different perspectives and see how they feel. The answer is obvious what you will get from a bodybuilding forum. Best case scenario would be if you can somehow get your parents on board. It might take many small steps and plenty of thought but it will be worth the effort I think.

Kkx - i understand their concerns and agree my studies come first. But my studies are going good and are my primary focus.

The bodybuilding will just be something else to pursue. And should the time come where i have time management issues. My studies are always the first priority and have always been

That is the reason why you will fail at bodybuilding. Finish your studies.

Kuifie. If it is your dream go for it. I always wanted to do it but never had the opportunity. Now at 44 I enjoy it and wish I could have started while I was younger.
One thing you will learn from this sport is discipline and that will help you in other areas of life as well. It is a long term commitment and could be frustrating at times.
One tip I would like to share to help you monitor your progress is to get a large sheet of paper(your body length size) and draw horizontal and vertical lines 5cm apart from top to bottom. Take pictures of yourself on a monthly basis with the paper as background and compare the progress.

Enjoy the ride!!!

Mike - i agree and studies will always get preference.

Oupa - i value your perspective. But i only have studies and my gym. I do not jol every weekend. I'll have a drink once every few weeks. Very little. I go to class. I eat. I train. I study. I sleep.
This will be something i can pursue.

In my experience, if you do not have the support. Or you do not want to compete 150%... then you will never get on that stage.

Prepping for a show when you are not mentally ready is not very smart. It is much tougher on you mentally than it is physically. Everything in your life has to be in place, and it has to be priority. Unfortunately it is a selfish sport, becuase for those +-13 weeks everything revolves around you every day, all week long. Your routine is set in stone, and stays that way.

So unless you are 100% dedicated, mentally, emotionally and physically ready for the challenge... I would wait a while then BUT if you are ready in all of those aspects... Then it is the best feeling in the world to step on stage, and get your hands raised and the winner! Worth every single piece of smelly hake and broccoli, early morning and late evening cardio sessions and weight training session while being absolutely depleted!

So what ever you decide, good luck!! :woohoo:
