Yohimbine, which is also known as Yo Yo, Chlorhydrate de Québrachine, Corynine Hydrochloride, and Aphrodine Hydrochloride, centrally acts as a alpha-2-adrenoceptor blocking agent. This monoamine oxidase inhibitor has the ability to interact with tryamine-containing food products and supplements such as phenylpropanolamine and phenylephrine.

It is known to positively affect cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, genito-urinary, respiratory, and central nervous system of the body. Yohimbine is used by bodybuilders and professional athletes due to its alleged aphrodisiac properties that help them grow lean, muscular body without much side-effects.

The chemical name of Yohimbine is Methyl 17alpha-hydroxy-yohimban-16alpha-carboxylate hydrochloride and its chemical formula is C21H26N2O3. It has a molecular formula of 354.4 [g/mol].

Yohimbine is indicated to cure impotency. It is also indicated as an aphrodisiac and a mild hallucinogen. In veterinary preparations, it is considered to be beneficial for reversal of xylazine-induced anesthesia in animals.

Yohimbine is contraindicated for individuals with a history of renal, cardiac or hepatic ailments. Food products and stimulants such as phenylephrine and phenylpropanolamine that contain tryamine must be avoided while Yohimbine is used.
