Syringe and needle size? was created by TheMachine099
Hello guys, what needle size should I use for the quads? Im going to inject Mondays and Thursdays into the quads. I'll be buying the needles at the pharmacy. Also is a standard syringe available at the pharmacy fine?

23 - 1.5 .. if you can get 23 - 1 it would be better, you can even go 25 - 1, but may be difficult to pass through.. so safer to stick with 23s

I use both 21g and 23g. The 23g hurts less for me, but takes a tad longer to push the oil through. I normally get 3ml syringes from the pharmacy. They seem to do the job just fine. Never had issues. I buy a few 18g needles to use when drawing the oil up into the syringe. It makes it loads easier. Obviously once you've loaded the syringe, you change to the needle you will inject with.

I use 24g for all IM oil injections. Better for less scar tissue buildup.

I use 22G with 5ml syringe. Works perfectly. You don't even feel it go in. I'm pinning glutes though.

I draw with 23 and inject with 21. Also, and the pharmacist I bought a box of needles from enlightened me to this, I highly recommend trying the Terumo brand of needles. The pharmacist told me it's their preferred needle cause they are hardly ever blunt and I can totally agree with them after using them. So many times I've hardly felt the needle go in, which is a different experience to what I've had on other brands.

Yes why draw with the small one?

I've never seen different brands at Dischem.

Haha, I just checked. The pharmacist recommended I use the 23 for drawing and the 21 for pinning. I just assumed that the larger the number the thicker the needle. My bad, but still, next time ask if they have terumo needles.

I don't recommend using thin things before thick things...

Obviously don't store your gear at high temps, i.e. >25C. But just before pinning hold it in your hand for a few minutes. This will warm up the oil reducing it's viscosity making it easier to inject.

As for Needle size, the thicker, the easier to inject but as MA says it causes more trauma and may lead to scar tissue. I go with 23G or 24G and SLOW using the following tip:

A very important trick I use when injecting anything deep IM is to slowly withdraw the needle as you're injecting. This helps with especially viscous injectables. It is a lot less traumatic on the muscle especially if you're jabbing large volumes of 3ml or more or the suspensions.

BUT - this should be done by experienced jabbers with stable hands only. If you withdraw too much you may pull too far and end up wasting the precious (said in a Gollum-like throat) as some oil may actually come out through the injection site.

In addition, a technique we use for Iron supplement injections for anaemic folk is "pull" the skin across. Inject, withdraw and release. This kind of "seals" the muscle into which it was injected. (The reason for this is that Iron injections basically cause a "tattoo" and if not done properly said person has an ugly blemish that's pretty much permanent)

But as I said, to be done by experienced folk only.

Good judgement comes from experience.
Experience comes from bad judgement.
