So I read something interesting on a thread from Pump. Let me not dwell on the thread. Basically I did a internet searching on the topic and just want to know from the guys here on the forum can training twice a day actually negatively affect the immune system? I ask this because until I started training twice a day as routine recently I got an upper respiratory tract infection which ended up as the flu eventually. This was during my sciatic injury. Now that I think about why is it also that on leg days when going heavy I experience flu like symptoms shortly after the session but they tend to disappear the next morning, is this a common effect of training legs really hard? I'm just trying to understand my body better as it seems I need to be taking better care of it.

I guess it is really up to the person, lifestyle (stress), amount of calories you consume in the day, if you work a physical job, if you getting enough (proper sleep), how many toxins you put in your body. Simply said if you training hard, and not getting enough calories, be prepared to get sick, the same goes if your CNS is getting hammered and then you go and train to much. There is ways around it, to get in antioxidants, I don't really believe in multi vitamins, but a cup of green tea of a cup of coffee. You need to see what works for you, currently I've been cutting calories hard and increased my training, by day 6 I had flue like symptoms and only went away by eating a few extra calories and sleeping hard on the weekend.

Hi Ravage. I have experienced the same. I have been on a deficit diet since Feb. lost nearly 20 kg's, BUT whenever I tried going hard for 2 consecutive days I would get ill or have absolutely zero energy. I had flu like 3 times this year. I think my CNS got affected and then you are susceptible to all kinds of germs.
I've read Mike Mentzer's book on high intensity weight training and he believed that as you get more gym fit and more experienced, you actually need to train less, as the risk of over training becomes greater.
However I agree with Pump that it would be person specific. In my view I would be able to train much more if I am on a building diet. It definitely affects my recovery. My sweet spot now is to train only 3 days a week, MWF.
I've recently changed to a recomp diet specifically for this reason. It is too soon to make a conclusion but will let you know if there's sustained noticeable difference.
