When to worry about possible pin infection? was created by PsyCLown
Hey guys!
Been a while since I was active here.
Last week Monday I did my pin as per usual (right side), using PGW Test Cyp (done a few shots from this bottle) and all was fine. Did the left side pin midweek, all was fine. Then towards the end of last week I noticed that when I pressed against that area on the right there was some pain. Then yesterday (Monday - so a week later basically) the pain was still there so I decided to pin on the left side again (so twice in a row on the left side).
My left side is still fine and does not bother me what so ever, not even the slightest bit of pain. My right side however is still a bit sore and I am starting to get a bit concerned as it has been over a week since I did that pin and there is some pain. Perhaps when I was pressing hard against the right side I agitated things a bit but I was concerned that there was still some pain there.
Sitting driving in the car is not a problem but if I bump into something or lean back against something I can feel the little bit of discomfort.
My procedure is to always wipe the top of the bottle with alcohol, I then draw with a 23 - 21g and then switch to a 26g half inch which I then use to shoot (SubQ in the ass, although as my body fat comes down I am not sure whether the half inch is actually still going into the fat or whether it is reaching the muscle).
I always wipe down the area with alcohol before I shoot and then I use my hand to blow the alcohol dry to avoid any alcohol from getting in during the pin and stinging and then wipe away the little drop of blood or oil after the pin with the cotton which still has alcohol on it.
Done many pins, never had an issue before. At what point do I become concerned and consider going to a Dr for some antibiotics or whatever? What are the possibilities and what should I look out for?
The area does not appear to be swollen or red or hot. I am currently on 0.7ml twice a week so not a large amount of liquid either.
Your feedback and assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Only you will know your discomfort level and if it's getting worse or starting to get to you. It should be slightly warm if its infected, but maybe now. That's not s lot of depth in the needle, I dont like going smaller than 24g, but everyone is different. Did you wiggle the needle around as you pushed the solution in, maybe its kiss irritated the tissue. Really difficult to say, try a small course of anti inflammatories but if its not getting better in the next few days, maybe then look at going to see someone. Your protocol is far more hygienic than mine and I've never had an infection from injecting.

Agreed, you just had some bad luck. Try 2xCataflam-D 3 times per day, and have your SO message the area until you cry. If you are perfectly relaxed and start getting fever and sweating bullets then go to the ER. You will know when to go trust me.

Don't pin in the problem area for a couple of weeks.

So a bit of an update, I got the flu a day or two after posting however the pain started to get better - not that it was incredibly sore to begin with. Normally I am rather steady when doing my pins, especially on the right side as its much easier to reach around -however it is a possibility. Perhaps it was just a bad pin as in the area where the needle went was a bit off.
I suspect perhaps due to my body being a bit run down and with the flu coming on, it might have affected things a bit. I have been pinning on the left only so far and might do one more pin on the left before moving back to the right.
Usually I do not get any pain after a pin, for there to be some pain a week later had me starting to get a bit concerned and I thought best to attend to it sooner than later.

Hey man.Sounds like you are all sorted. One tip i have seen others say is do not blow the alcohol as this can actually lead to contamination of the area as you blow bacteria from your mouth onto the injection site.
Btw, why do you inject subq?

I do not blow it with my mouth, that'll be impressive since I pin in my glutes.
I wave my hand over the area to get some air moving, it can lead to containments in the air getting in contact with your skin once again - although how pedantic do you want to be. Not really plausible to be able to pin in a laminar flow hood for example
lol
As for why SubQ, I find it a bit easier and I can also pin with a smaller needle.
I've also read a few articles about subq vs IM and it seemed as if subq was a bit better, however that is just a bonus really and hasn't affected my decision. I doubt it makes any noticeable difference either.
