AAS. Acne? Antibiotics? Vs Muscle gains? was created by maxfactor
As we all know AAS can cause Acne.
Not all of us want to spend hours doing cosmetic procedures in front of the mirror ultimately fighting a loosing battle.
Let's face it(no pun intended) topical solutions don't always work.

Some of us will resort going to a doctor to fix the problem.
And a large percentage of us will be prescribed Antibiotics.

But what if those Antibiotics hamper your muscle gains?

here is what I have found:

Most Antibiotics do their job by causing a misreading in protein synthesis in vivo(in your body on a cellular level).
Sounds to me like the exact mechanism that causes muscle gains that is being disrupted.

Here is a few excerpts from the leaflet i got with my Antibiotics

O-4 CYCLINE Capsules

"PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION:
Tetracyclines are bacteriostatic antibiotics which inhibit bacterial growth by binding to the 30S ribosomal sub unit with consequent misreading of information for protein synthesis."

Furthermore

"WARNINGS:
Frail or elderly patients are susceptible to the hepatotoxic and anti-anabolic effects of tetracyclines."

Furthermore

"SIDE EFFECTS AND SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS:
In the elderly a negative nitrogen balance may be induced."

I found these basic mechanism of antibiotics across the board of antibiotics.
Not just O-4 cycline capsules.

Yeah sure you may not be frail or elderly, but if it has an effect on them surely there must be an effect on us.
After all the Antibiotics are doing their job and their job is "misreading of information for protein synthesis"
I personally have lost a couple of kilos while using it. And gained when I went off. How much of it was placebo? Who knows?

Only question that remains is is inhibiting the binding of the 30S ribosomal sub responsible for muscle growth(protein synthesis)

Ps. If you are taking Isotretinoin for your Acne
(brand names: Accutane (Roche) Amnesteem (Mylan), Claravis (Barr), Clarus (PREMPHARM), Decutan (Actavis), Isotane (Pacific Pharmaceuticals), Izotek (BlauFarma), Oratane (Genepharm Australasia), Roaccutane (Roche), or Sotret (Ranbaxy)
That would be a very bad idea to use while on oral AAS like Dbol.
Your liver would be shot before you can Bob’s your uncle.

Antibiotics target the ribosomes of bacteria. You mention the 30S ribosome of bacteria (prokaryote) which is the small subunit. What you are saying is correct but humans (eukaryotes) ribosomes consist of 60S and 40S. To conclude, antibiotics are either bacteriostatic or bacteriocidal and some target 30S of prokaryotes causing a disruption in protein synthesis of proteins required by the bacterial genome, but cannot cause disruption of protein synthesis in humans as we do not have a 30S ribosomal subunit for these antibiotics to target. Some antibiotics target the 50S sububit of bacteria but again humans dont have this ribosomal subunit. So based on the above information, antibiotics are not going to influence eukaryote protein synthesis and hence muscle gains.

Very satisfying answer beesting.
That pretty much settles it then regarding protein synthesis.
But what about the mentioned “anti anabolic" effects? And the nitrogen balance?
Does that have to do with the effects the Antibiotics may have on the kidneys? clearance of certain substances?

The anti-anabolic effects was specific for the frail and elderly people. The body still has to cope with antibiotics when they are in the system and recognises these compounds as being foreign just like any other drug thus lowering the immune system but since the elderly and frail have weaker immune systems compared to the the youth and middle aged people they "stuggle" to eliminate such compounds more than others as well as stuggle with maintaining muscle mass. This extra stress on the body makes the elderly and frail even more vulnerable to muscle loss

It makes perfect sense.
Especially seeing as there are so many immune response warnings on antibiotics.:woohoo:

I found something VERY interesting.

It turns out that tetracyclines will not hamper muscle gains, but rather aid gains quite dramatically if you look at the percentages. Especially when combined with insulin.

So here is the link: www.freepatentsonline.com/EP0464932.html

It might be boring to read for some, but you must endure it.
It might be revolutionary

Doctari and Beesting I want you to read it.

The increased weight gain is due to reduced collagen breakdown. The specific tetacycline that the study refers to, inhibits collagenase, the enzyme responsible for collagen breakdown and so by taking this tetracycline there is no collagen breakdown (or limited). This explains the increased body weight observed in the studies.

the specific tetracycline that the article refers to is a modified tetracycline that does not have bacteriostatic properties. It is modified to avoid gastrointestinal sides by killing flora.
But the standard oxytetracycline hydrochloride has the same anti-atrophy results.
In both muscle tissue and collagen.
Muscle tissue and collagen are clearly different tissues and the inhibition of wasting was found in both.

have a close look at the in vitro tests and results found under sections labled "examples 1-3"
Have i look at the tests done on myoblasts using tyrosine and albumin as the markers for the tests.
