Hi guys
Apologies if this is in the wrong section, so I have recently had a health scare where my kidney count was all over the place around 175 and my doctor sent me to a urologist. He did some tests which came back inconclusive but did make a cowboy diagnosis that it could be my trt dosage of test e. I'm running around 120mg a week as prescribed by my doctor.

HAs anyone else experienced anything like this?

Testosterone does not cause kidney damage at reasonably doses. I've also had some worries about my kidneys.

Did the doc also test your GFR? What was the number? Essential to get this test done. A creatinine number of 175 is concerning but other things can also elevate this, and you need to do look at other kidney related tests and get another test for confirmation before you worry.

You can put 50 guys with perfect, healthy bloodwork on TRT and not one of them will have concerning effects on the kidneys. Even men with CKD can safely use TRT, but doses should just be more conservative. Studies have been done on this and it is safe at your dose.

If you already have borderline kidney disease or a scary GFR then higher doses of TRT and going on cycle should be avoided. Only because testosterone thickens the blood due to increased red blood cell production which increases blood pressure. This is dose dependant. High blood pressure is one of the leading causes of kidney failure.

If your hemoglobin and hematocrit is in range then your testosterone dose is fine. If they are too high then give blood every 6 weeks or so.

What is your total and free T on 120mg/week?

The kidney killer world wide is uncontrolled blood pressure

We need to know what is at 175? Give us the blood work and markers and we can check on that.

Here's what we need to know: Urea and Creatine levels, your estimated glomerular filtration rate (GFR) your blood pressure (please let your doc do it - home test machines are virtually useless.) And for interest's sake, where the swollen kidneys diagnosed with a scan (either ultrasound of CT?)

Hey builder
BP is normal, I can't remember the exact numbers but very much in the normal range.
Blood results are from 3 march
Below:
Urea: 6.7 ( on the higher side of normal)
Creatinine 118 ( high) but a lot lower than what is was
Gfr 67 ( I have 2 kidneys so this is really shit although it was in the 40s at its lowest)

Swollen kidneys were confirmed with ultrasound and then checked out with a MRI scan as well for any blockages etc

A quick update. Had another sonar and kidney function test this week. Sonar looked better but creatinine levels are back up to 137.
I am off all supplements at this time now for a month (all vitamins, pre workout, whey etc)
I have been off my trt now for 5 weeks.
Heading in for a renogram sometime this week.

The negative effects on your body of stopping TRT even with advanced chronic kidney disease are going to be worse than any side effects you could get from low dose TRT. People with serious CKD are usually put on TRT, not taken off it. You're torturing yourself from bad advice bud.

Our creatinine levels are directly correlated with the amount of muscle mass we carry. Creatinine is a byproduct of muscle tissue breakdown. So in theory your creatinine might slowly come down stopping TRT, but only because you'll have less muscle mass. It's not an indicator that your kidneys are becoming more efficient at filtering creatinine.

You haven't given us much other info to go on. But if you're extremely muscular or just very big overall, then just losing some muscle mass and overall size should definitely improve your kidney function test numbers, and I would definitely size down if my GFR was bouncing between 40-60 and not improving.

Hey

Muscleaddict
Some quick stats:
Age 38
Weight 93 @ 9-10% bodyfat
183 cm tall
Blood pressure is on the lower side of normal
Blood sugar normal
And then the kicker, I got the results from the renogram... See below its in afrikaans

1. Die bloedvloei na beide die niere is normaal.
Beide niere is dadelik sigbaar na inspuiting.
Soos ook gesien vloei-grafieke.
2. Die regter nier is groter as links.
L = 99 vkcm & R = 114 vkcm.
Die REGTER bekken is sigbaar.
~ Geen uitgesette kelke sigbaar nie.
3. Op 2 min is die differensieele bydrae:
L = 53% & R = 47% - steeds BNP.
Pas ook in met die perfusie indeks.
3. REGS: Normale konsentrasie + funksie.
