Muscles get stronger much faster than your tendons on steroids, so while you might not have been overtraining your muscles, you are now suffering because your joints most likely did not get enough recovery time between heavy leg days.

You should also not be locking out your knees on heavy leg press exercises. Keep the tension on your muscles. Squats are more likely to give you knee problems if you are avoiding glute/hip activation by leaning forward on the knees and only focussing on quads. Very common.

go for a massage, potentially could be a number of things, my knee pain actually stems from my glutes every single time. Once the glute is released and my quads are run through, it feels great again.

The joys of having flat feet and knocked knees.

My tendons are actually very sore, al the way over the knee cap. When I apply firm pressure it is actually very uncomfortable.

In my experience, my knee pain was almost always the result of having a weak posterior chain. Bad technique could also be the culprit. I won't push too hard until you figure out what's going on to avoid long-term injury.

Apologies, for replying this late, only saw that there is a notification button for posts now, which I obviously did not select. So I found out that I have a form of tendonotis(yes long road to recovery),and that the flexibility(Stiffness) of your quads can contribute. It appears that over use etc.may also have been contributing factor.

Thanks for all of the responses and advice.

If you aren't already doing this: a bit of daily omega 3 (fish oil) supplementation to keep them bones waxed is a step in the right direction.
