it's kinda common knowledge that longer estered AAS's result in more water retention e.g. Test En vs Test Prop. But this isn't making sense to me.

Test prop is absorbed faster & also results in higher levels of basic test in your blood i.e. more test to aromatise into estrogen and cause more water retention over a shorter time frame.

Yet Equipoise (Undeclynate) another long estered AAS is not specifically associated with water retention due to its lower rate of aromatisation.

But Deca (Decanoate) is knows for water bloat.

What gives?

Rule of thumb is the more androgenec/anabolic hte substance is the more it will either SUPPRESS natural test and/or aromatize -both's net effect is a higer level of Estrogen in the organism. In the case of aqua Test your supresion is highish but armotization not that bad thus a pretty lean gain. In Deca you have terible supression but very little Armotization if any. Then yiou have to take the individual into acount as well. I have seen guys get ripped on Deca and some giuys bloat on winny. Equipose is weaker than Deca. But as a rule anabolics tend to bloat less than Androgenics- as a rule but take into acount something like Deca which is anabolicaly dominant with a dash of androgens BUT it has high supression and you can see where it will go.

I'm not sure if outlinking is allowed, but this may help to answer the question at hand:
