A while ago I went to a GP to have bloods done. He obviously had some time to kill, so checked my height and asked me to step on the scales. Then he pulled out a little laminated graph, and pronounced that I was morbidly obese - based on these two inputs

I had a dexa scan (arguably the most accurate BF measuring tool) done the week before visiting the twat. From memory my LBM was 108kg and total weight 130kg. Nothing spectacular, but definitely well within the healthy range. When he mentioned lap band surgery I just switched off and nodded. At least GP visits are free in Oz.

Using bmiclinic.com.au/bmi/ I have to reach 80kg to be "desirable". If you ever bother going back to your doc, ask him what weight he'd expect you to reach. For me, I'd have to go back to when I was 16.

hahaha had a similar experience during a wellness day. All my tests were superb except my BMI was not according to their chart. Throughout the test each nurse commented on it saying it's the only issue they had until i got to one nurse to check cholesterol. Her eyes went big and had me in a panic. Upon questioning her expression she went on to mention i'm the healthiest person in our 26 story building hahaha. I mentioned the notes and comments on my BMI and she told me it's a load of crap and that i should ignore it and just keep doing what i'm doing.... definitely one of the 1% who's advice i'd take any day.

I agree that doctors don't know as much as they make out to know and there are definitely times when some of us know better. Especially when it comes to fitness sports and PED's. My doc got a shock when i knew more than him during our discussion on steroids. Now he always brings up the topic whenever we're there or if he bumps into me in public.

It's sad how little doctors really know. I guess they're after easy money.

The same shit happens when we get pulled up for high liver enzyme counts:

Technically you need to cease strenuous exercise for a whole week before the patho tests are accurate, and generally all the other thresholds are equally aimed at average humans rather than those who push themselves.
