Been off since pre-contest Sept last year. Longest I ever was on, was 24 weeks - will never do it again.

Intresting topic Gary! Why do you ask??;) Are you thinking bad thoughts...only joking!
But I have read articles from guys who have been 'on' from 2 to 5 years with no break and although I do not endorse this type of Russian roulette with one's endocrine system, not one of these 'athletes' suffered any major effects in fact all of them recovered(with the help of an endocronologist)to normal hormonal levels after 1 year to 18 months (some of the subjects had used in excess of 1500mg of anabolics per week for more than a year at a time)
I supose we dont know what will happen to/afflict these individuals in the long term(next 10-15 years)but I can tell you one thing HRT is a reality(shutting down your own supply for life)and I have a few friends from my powerlifting days who are unable to have kids.At the end of the day the choice is yours:unsure:
Its funny that if you walk into a pharmacy and eat 100 of most shedule 1 painkillers you will probably die ; eat 100 shedule 5 steroid tablets and all you'll get is an oily skin and a slight increase in blood pressure with a sore tummy!

hmm ,, well it seems the only reason to come off would be if you wanted to have kids,, and don't want to be on HRT for the rest of your life

I have met a few guys who's "off" cycle is 1000mg of Depo a week,, I wonder do the pro's ever come off?

Guys speak a lot about receptor downgrade,, and there is Lots of anecdotal evidence to suggest it,, does anyone know of any real research on receptor downgrade with regards to AAS

If it's not working,,, take double,,,

Why do you think I'm off currently? Hmm, the wife wants to finish the family.... Phew, one of these days I'll have my balls back again........!

To my knowledge, I don't no of any such studies on down regulation. Well, atleast that I have not read.

What we keep on forgetting and this is the most important part of successful b/building - cortisol control.
I want you to think about this: under normal cicumstances, your testosterone levels and cortisol levels balance by the process of homeostases. What do you think will happen if I can suppress just the cortisol level? Testosterone will become more effective.
These guys that stay on for very long periods - most maintain their weight, but actually don't grow that much. Why? Because they have settled at a state where their higher than normal testosterone level is balanced out by higher than normal cortisol.
Bottom line:
You'll do better when you cycle AAS's and follow the cycle by effective cortisol control - you will gain more and more the more effective you control cortisol. It's not neccessary to stay on AAS's all the time....

Ok you see that kinda makes sense to me,,,, I've never believed in downgrade of Androgen receptors,,, I think everything points to receptor upgrade ,,,,

BUT the Cortisol Argument makes perfect sense ,,,, Now we just gotta figure a SAFE way to curb the cortisol,,

If it's not working,,, take double,,,

About TRT - our natural test producion will deminish after 40 and we will eventually just fade away......
Why not stand a decent chance and supplement the T?

Hm, good point Jack. Problem is though, that Replacement Therapy seen by us Docs differs extremely of what B/B see as "Replacement Therapy".

The new drug on the market, called Nebido, has about 1000mg of Testosterone bound to a very slow-releasing ester. It mimicks the normal 8mg Test production per day. It is used every three months. So, 90 x 8 = 720mg over three months - the rest of the 1000mg is roughly ester weight.
I don't think it has a place in B/B, except for guys that have screwed up their systems to the extent that they will need TRT for the rest of their lives. And it is #$@^ expensive - way over R1000 a shot!

Remember, using higher doses as Testosterone for TRT, will just yield higher cortisol levels to counter it....

Gary, remember that what is seen as safe, effective dosages in medicine to treat hormone replacement therapy, would look like kindergarden to most b/b'ers. But, then again, body building never was a medical condition....
