Tuna, Tuna and more TUNA!!! was created by Stolla
Hi there

What do you think of veggies in a can? Like the koo brand? And Tuna in water. I am alot on the road and I find it easier to eat veggies and tuna, I simply open them in the morning, put it in a small lunchbox and in a small cooler and off I go with my water bottle.

I also find it cheaper to buy Tuna than chicken plus I love tuna so its really not a problem for me.

Breakfast
x4 whole eggs, boiled or scrambled

Mid Morning
x1 can tuna with x2 slices of rye bread

Lunch
x2 cans of tuna in water with 150gr of koo veggies in can

Mid afternoon
x1 Fruit

Pre workout
oats 60gr

After workout
60gr whey

Dinner
200gr chicken/beef/tuna/fish with salad, or 200gr veggies

Thanks

I actually yacked a little just reading the title.. Damn you tuna!

Is there no other alternative? You really need some variety in your protein source, and you WILL hate tuna in a week. There are also cans of smoked chicken, or just those smoked chicky breasts which taste great.

To you it may look like I just did a push-up... But in fact, I just bench-pressed the world.

dude no.. You are gonna turn into one ha ha.. plus its very high in things like mercury (yes this topic is debatable) so too much of it is never really the best thing. Your main concern is the variety though, its very important. In any day I will have whey, chicken, eggs and read meat as well as a few incomplete proteins.

Bump Chapel on the Mercury-if you love fish you could try some sardines

Mixing up the diet a bit is also a good idea

You so lucky you like tuna. I hate the shit, I only eat it because it's convenient. 60grams of protein in a can. Can't complain

I get the lucky star tins. A lot bigger than say John West, maybe not double the size but at least 50-60% bigger. So not quite 60grams. More like 45-50 then. Otherwise just chow 2 regular tins :) I swallow mine down with water. Can't handle the taste. A little bit of diced onion makes it almost bearable though

Tuna is too expensive. Even when its on special the chicken boobs are still better value. Or whey.

I did the calculation a while back. Whey actually works out to be the most expensive form of protein and tuna/fish was 2nd in line. Chicken is the cheapest

What tuna you buy?!?

I agree other fish like hake comes in around chicken, but all the shops I know of sell tuna for much more than whey protein for protein.

i like the xtra lean mince you buy at checkers. got 23.4g of protein per 100g. Mix it with a small can of koo cuury veg. i eat jabout 250g at a time with some brown rice and lentil mix.! love it
Think it only has about1.3 grams of fat per 100g

I will do the calc here again in case i'm not remembering correctly. Lets work on a 25g protein serving and assuming the following:

a can of tuna costs about R9-90 which is about a 25g serving (somewhere between 25 and 30g)
Lean mince is about R53/kg and gives you 21g protein per 100g
Chicken breasts is about R43/kg and gives you 23g of protein for 100g
Unflavoured whey concentrate from BSSA is R120/kg and is 80% protein
Normal whey in shops is about R229-50/kg (2kg SSN whey)

Then:
1. 25g protein serving of tuna would be R9-90
2. 25g protein serving of mince would be 119g of mince which would be R6-31
3. 25g protein serving of chicken would be 109g of chicken which would be R4-69
4. 25g protein serving of BSSA whey concentrate is 31g whey which would be R3-72
5. 25g protein serving of SSN whey (normal shop whey) is 31g whey which would be R7-11

I stand corrected. Tuna would be most expensive form of protein acc to these calcs

Interesting, thanks for the calculations.

Personally tuna is my last choice, because I can't stand the tuna breath.

Yep, that's "give or take" how I got it. I'm on a strict budget so I know my prices :P (Told ya so :silly:)

My latest meal innovation is pap and whey protein in a bowl. Cook together, eat together.

Megusta: how many carbs in that curry veg tin? I don't mind the fat, as long as it is not too much trans fats
