I was just wondering...
Just before you go and train, when is it best to take simple carbs or best to take complex carbs?

I am taking complex carbs before I train, as I can't have sugars because of my strict diet.
But if I'm having my rice cakes before training when is it best to take them? 1hr before??? 30min before??? I mean how long does it take the body to absorb those carbs?
Does it make a difference on which complex carbs you have eg. rice cakes, potato's, oats, rice etc.

Hey Skyth, ME had an article where they suggest incorporating simple carbs. Have you read it?

ok dude the reason why u are having complex carbs pre work out whilst cutting is cos simple carbs can cause an insulin spike and if not utalised correctly can force fats into the muscle walls as well as other nutrients like protein and water. insulin is your friend if trying to get big but if u are trying to cut it can be the devil...rather just wait till u are done cutting then add in the simples...

Thanks guys... but doesn't really answer my question though about the time period, as to when I should take my complex carbs before workout?
I know I am not suppose to take simple carbs, thanks DJ.

well u train in the afternoon so anytime up to an hour before work out...and i am bummed with u...i came to drop goodies off with u at work and u didnt answer my call or reply to my sms...so i am not feeling the love...

What is the best complex carbs for me to take before a workout?

I have lots of ideas. Trouble is, most of them suck.

brown rice,potato,sweet potato,oats, about an hour an a half to an hour before u train.

i'm not a big fan of wheat based products as i find they bloat me,but thats personal opinion...rather try stay away from manufactured carbs (pasta is made with lots of ingredients) and rather use products are grown such as potatos,sweet potatos or rice,thats my personal preference.
