Hey guys!

Just a quick question

This morning I went and got my body fat measured for the first time in my life and although it's disgustingly high when judging on the standards of the men on this forum, it's a bit lower than I thought.

The little machine thing he used is called bodystat 1500. He stuck two things on my right foot and two on my right hand then put two cables on them to measure. (I though he wanted to jump start my body  )

Here's a link to a site on bodystat 1500 www.bodystat.com/products/bodystat-1500/

How accurate is this type of measurement?

Thanks guys :silly:

That probably uses a similar technology to what the thing you stick your arm through at virgin active to measure body fat...

They aren't all that accurate... my bodyfat changes from when I enter gym to when I leave... by sometimes as much as 5%.

We looked at buying this for my gym, but went with callipers instead for better accuracy.

The problem IMO with BI devices is that they come out with different results dependent on stuff like hydration levels and whether you've exercised or not that day etc.

They can be accurate, but as with anything, the amount you pay for the device correlates very closely with the efficacy and accuracy. This one is only about R4500, where as the top ones are in excess of R60k.

I'd imagine with the 1500 you've probably got up to a 5% sway either side. If you keep getting yourself checked by the device and roughly the same times and same conditions, then the inaccuracy of the device will remain constant and you can still track improvements.

Personally, I'd rather find a skilled operative using Harpenden skinfold calipers.

Now aint that a mood damper! I went on an empty stomach and haven't exercised, it said I was 20.9%, so I might likely be 25%, that SUCKS!

Anyway, I'll just track progress @ my gym with the same measurement method, like you said, whether it's inaccurate, I'll still be able to track my progress!

I think this upcoming holiday I'll make an appointment with the biokineticist at the gym there to have a body composition evaluation done and see what those results tell me!

Thanks peeps :cheer:
