Firstly, hello everyone. :)

I don't post, but have been reading through quite a few threads the last couple of months. The common theme I have noticed is clearly diet and whilst I have a rather basic understanding of the general concepts that have been put forward to members, I have trouble with the practical implementation thereof. What I mean is how do you marry the theory and the practice? What I can clearly see is that many of you do. And very successfully!

I would like to contact DJ for a custom diet, but before I get there I need to know that I can put into practice what he tells me. If the requisite 6 to 8 meals with magic combination of nutrients could somehow appear at the correct time then woohoo! But alas they do not!

So my question is, do you guys have some tips on how to stay motivated to sticking to your diets etc? With our awfully busy lives and getting pulled in so many directions, the concept of rigid meals at certain times is something I am struggling with.

Some notes about me:
Height 168
Weight 68
Age 33

I would like to lose some of the weight I have picked up due to a long battle with pain. I don't want to compete or anything, rather just look and feel good.

Perhaps this is a bit of an esoteric question, but an important one nonetheless.

You have to ask yourself... do you want it bad enough...

If the answer is yes you scheme up ways... I've taken lunch boxes to church, chowing before the service and afterward...etc... when we visited people...I took a lunch box and ate my meal...I cooked up kilos of chicken and beef at a time, and froze it in portions... I bought an electronic scale... and plastic containers.

I managed to lose 8 kg in around 3 months and my appearance changed quite a bit... I was super stressed over the last three months and even gyming 4 - 5 times a week and eating controlled calories didn't help... Trying again now...

Exactly what warrwnpridgeon said depends how bad u want it. Easy thing is to cook up all your meals for the day an put them in containers an bring them with u. Even when I'm at work. I pop away for 3-4 mins an quickly chow down my meal.
An if you work with DJ u will have The motivation to stick to it. As I have been working with him for the past 6 weeks an my results are amazing so far. Down 15kg in 6 weeks :-) an body fat down to 14-15% from 24-26%.

Thanks for the replies. :)

Sounds like the DJ route works. I also need something sustainable as a lifestyle. I don't want to yoyo from one weight to the next. Does DJ structure these kind of diets as well?

I think you have already been presented with some notable wisdom and I think working with DJ would do you well.

However irrespective of who you work with or alongside, you need to drive your train. You need to employ an incredible amount of discipline and there is no easy way about it. I cook all my meals one or two days before they are due for consumption. I have made a special arrangement with the canteen at work to prepare meals for me if I am notably busy.

I ensure that all my protein shakes are prepared the night before, even my morning whey rests in the fridge ready.

Bodybuilding irrespective of your goals is not a destination, it is a lifestyle and although I take breaks such as now. I have committed myself to that lifestyle. You have the power and the abilities to transform yourself, your body into your desired state.

When you are running low on motivation, check out some Kai Green's life story on youtube and that should charge your engines.

Thank you for your reply Tylerx.

Still been lurking quite a bit and not asked DJ for help yet. Eeeeeek I know my fault. On the plus side I've been working out lots and hard and heavy. Lost some weight too. And playing golf! LOVE golf.

And reading the posts here of course.

Tylerx your dedication is awesome. I haven't even contemplated asking the canteen at work for special requests. A bit embarrassing, but I think what happens to me when I work (which doesnt when I'm on holiday), is that it feels like my entire digestive system literally shuts down. I believe it's stress related. It vanishes when I'm on leave. :(

Stupid work. Bluegh.

I check out kai. :)

One of the things I really notice is how many people cannot sustain what they are doing be it either diet or training or both. In my opinion long term success is all about the trade off between doing something optimally versus doing something you can sustain for years. We all often hear the slogan " consistency is the key" so what I try and do is merge my transformation objectives with my lifestyle. Yes I know it takes longer to see results and yes I could be far more disciplined, but I'd rather lose 1 kg a month that lose 4 only to put it back on in three months time.

My 2c.

Good luck with reaching your goals. This forum and its members are awesome and will assist you with sound advice.

Great post. Have a hit of karma. I see it the same way with the way I eat. I know how to eat and train to get the best results but I can't maintain that to the T for more than a few months at a time and then I would end up getting complacent and felt like I'd let myself down. In those fired up months I would obsess about doing everything perfectly, but without a tangible goal like aiming to compete it eventually becomes unrealistic.

Long term success I also see as a trade off between going for perfection and what I realistically will stick to, and this way I avoid letting myself down but can still be lean, strong, healthy and most importantly happy. If it's not making you happy anymore and becomes an obsession then it won't last. Be focused, not obsessed.
