I get deboned, skinless and trimmed chicken breast for R26/kg all the time from a local supplier. Guess that makes me lucky then :)

Damn I wish I could buy from there :(

I'd buy 20kg if I could buy at those prices!

Any one know of anywhere in Cape Town that can come close to this?

For the guys in CPT, I found a past thread here, apparently "Country Fair" in Epping sells chicken breasts @ R35 per Kg, not great compared to R22 per kg but better than supermarkets.

I noticed that post was August last year, are they still that price?

Country Fair at Pick n Pay was 23.99 a kg for breasts on the bone with skin.

The PnP brand was 22.99. This was prices last week. I have not idea if this was a special or not.

At Checkers price was R33.99.

I'm all for cheaper prices, but sometimes I wonder why some prices are that much lower?

Obviously cutting out the middleman (super markets) will make a massive difference already, but I'm always very cautious when things look too good to be true.

As long as you know where the chickens came from it will be ok, but I'm always worried that I'm buying the dead chickens some farms sell for R2 to the townships.

Did not think about that....

but if fakida and sons are selling it halaal, then they must still be alive etc, and not dead chickens that are picked up in cages?

Ja, a few rand saving is all I'll go for. I buy from a nice butcher... I wouldn't be surprised if allot of that Halaal stuff isn't the real when buying from some of these places.

fakida and sons, sell different brands as well, goldi, rainbow etc. You choose your brand and pay accordingly - pretty confident in them

I wouldn't feed rainbow chicken to my dogs. There is something seriously wrong with the quality of their products, that stuff is always slimy and nasty inside.

I only buy chicken from local butchers, fuck these large companies flooding the market with their imported shit.

I agree with you on the rainbow chicken, those stuff's nasty man! I buy bulk at my local butchery, each breast individually wrapped, fresh for around 120kg per 4kg box. It's really convenient, and a good price. Good quality product too, not those hormone feeded, slimy huge watery chicken breasts that even if you overcook it, has a raw texture to it. :silly:
