Hey guys my cals are confusing the hell out of me, I'm 93kg, 33, 183cm at 10 percent. My fitness pal says my maintenance cals are 2760 but if I use the lbm formula in DJ's stickies to calculate my tdee apparently my maintenance is like 3300 cals...?
How accurate is myfitnesspal? 450 cal difference is one hell of a lot I've filled in my activity level(5 times a week)

Please help what the hell should maintenance be for me

Not very accurate it seems, i also get roughly 3200 as your maintenance. Work with that one not there's.

I get 2950 cals if I use 1.55. Did you use lean mass?

Don't get too caught up in the numbers though, at best they're geusstimates. Just keep track of your progress and play with your numbers from there.

Hey, ye I use lean body mass. So 370 +(21.6 multiply by 83.7) gives me a bmr of 2177 times 1.55 gives me 3374.
I'm currently eating 3440 but I'm on cycle.
I've got an assessment on Tuesday so ill keep my cals as they are until then.

Thanks gents I've just been worrying that I'm not eating enough. Or over eating

Sorry if I've been a pain in the ass guys, it's just been a crash coarse on trying to learn to put my own diet together for the first time. I've enjoyed it but all the different theories out ther on how mush surplus you need to bulk without gaining to much fat sometimes gets my head spinning.
Thanks for all your help and oppinions

Tip: Relax. Get to know your body. Personally I've gone way under BMR and still lost fat, no muscle. That's without thermo's or anabolics. Keep an eye on the changes then play around with numbers from there. If you lose more muscle that fat, I usually increase protein and I'm back on track.

Keep the questions coming, that's how we learn.

^^^this. Constantly worrying about cals and surplus ec will drive you crazy. Once you have a base figure to work from just add or take away from your diet and see how your body responds. Take measurements not only weight.

Hey Pyro

May I ask what app you rate or use on your iPad, for calculating food values? I saw a thread with a screen shot of the one you use.. But for the life of me I can't find that thread.

Thanks bud.
Ron

Thanks bud. Yeah okay, I have MyFitnessPal. Not a huge fan to be honest. Thought you used a better one. Totally agree, the manual route is the only way to go. You are a good example of that bud! ;)

Started using MFP today, thought I'd give it a go as it would force me to log my eating habits (and improve them, I'm guilty of not eating enough sometimes).

Now I come on here and it seems people don't like it? Sorry if I'm hijacking, but yeah, let me rather just ask, what's wrong with MFP?

Yeah bud.. I don't trust the calculations and I don't think it's geared for the South African Market.. I don't need to type in EXACTLY what I eat every day, to see what my calories are.. Thats for people that don't or can't stick to their eating plan, religiously (just my view)... Ah, have not really given MyFitnessPall much time.. So guess it works for some. Just too much 'gumff' on it. Prefer a good old fashioned simple spread sheet and you can just add in and take off, as and when needed. No need for 10 steps before you can make one change. Maybe I just think very logically and simply. Don't enjoy unnecessary complicated things. :woohoo:

When I saw your screen shot, I just thought whatever you using must be worth a go.

Hi Theodoric,

Not hijacking at all bud... It's all related.

Yeah, give it a try and see how you find it. Will be interested in your feedback as well.

Just my opinion bud. It's a free app, so you have nothing to loose really. ;)

I like MFP because it contains almost all the specific foods you buy. It even has specific foods from Germany listed and the labels are accurate. If I want to change a food I just delete is and add in what I want. Nothing complicated about it. I don´t log my food every day if that´s what you mean? I just use it to calculate the values to aim for every meal to get the right macros.

Shot Pyro.. Yeah, I thought you needed to log what you eat every day. That's exactly what I wanna do, calculate the values for every meal to get the correct macros. Cool man.. Gonna play around with it again.

I have a spread sheet that has a list of the nutritional content of various foods, and meal structure throughout the day. My sheet adds up my macro's and cals so its quick and easy to adjust quantities until I get it where I want it. BTW, anyone used the Galaxy S4's S-Health to track daily intake? I took 1 look at it but immediately gave up and stuck to my spreadsheet. Is MFP similar to the S-Health? I might still give it a try sometime. :P
