Hi

Just briefly!! I was going to start a cycle of var and prov then sh!t came up and I thought about it some more and decided my first cycle has to include test (Stupid to think it didnt have to)

Now i done a carb cycling diet where i dropped decent bf, then work and stuff came up I fell off the wagon and now starting a fresh...... BUT!!! heres the thing

I like diets and have tried quite a few but never Keto yet!! So few days ago I decided on this Keto diet by Old time Legend Vince Gironda's Steak and eggs!! Yep thats exactly it.. only Steak and Eggs

Im in on day 2 and its going well thus far, Bit of cravings but energy is good,yesterday i broke my PR in Arnie shoulder @ 40kgs for 6 reps unassisted

Im fully in Ketosis I think, got all the signs..breath lol metallic typa taste in mouth etc

This is like a zero carb diet with refeeds every 5-7 days depending on bf percentage!! let me know who tried it and what you guys think and questions etc... :)

Edit: on this diet I hit my macros according to my TDEE to lose bf I need around 2400-2600 cals so ive set mine at 2400 as my maintenance is 2900 cals

Are you running AAS while on keto?

Be sure to run cholesterol support if you don't fancy a heart attack and have any money left when you come from the butchery.

Get ketostix to assess whether you are in ketosis. Don't see this diet as anything other than a fad diet.

I think your 1st que is typo? But if u asking if im on AAS whilst doing this then the answer is no. 1st wanna bring bf down to around 10% before starting cycle

My trip to the pharm was going to be today but timing is a bit of an issue for cholesterol supp so that will come tomorrow or so hopefully.

Its not that expensive when you compare it to other types of keto diets, maybe R100 per day at most

Ketostix was also on my list to get when i get the chol supp.. just to be sure

Fad diet? No its not

85 grams of beef provides the same amount of Iron as 2 3/4 cups of raw spinach. 113 grams of beef gives you 40% of your daily requirement of Zinc. 113 grams of beef gives you 40% of your daily requirement of Selenium. 113grams ounces of beef gives you nearly 50% of your daily requirement of vitamin B12 and 25% of your daily requirement of vitamin B6, Eggs contain Calcium, Phosphorus and Magnesium.

Most fad diets dont come close to hitting macros let alone everything else, ive tried one so i know (Cabbage soup diet= moerse fail)

Vince gave these diets to Arnie and the likes of them for contest prep and it was quite effective according to the articles ive read

Im also just trying it for atleast this week to see and decide from there.. but so far so good.I might not continue this specific route but I do intend on staying keto until i reach my bf % to start my first cycle. just thought it be interesting as I dont really know anyone here in SA who has tried it

3 grand a month is solid for keto. ;) Not exactly a bargain. So you're telling me that this is better than eating a variety of protein sources like steak, eggs, AND chicken, fish, oils, nuts, etc. ? If you are very concerned about vitamins then get a solid multivit and do 4-10x the recommended amount of vitamins. Keto is brilliant and should do you well. You will find a couple on this forum who have tried it. What I mean with fad diet is that in terms of keto it's a fad. The diet is still keto and counting calories so in terms of that it's solid. But not better than keto with full protein sources hence a fad. Fad = Something to feed the mind.

Dunno what happened to my post now lol

Im not saying and wont say this is better than the conventional method, merely just a trial and error. Vince Gironda was a guru of his time so its more a thing of bringing back the 60's -70's back... well for me atleast

And i wouldnt recommend this to anyone for a period longer than a month either, this is more of a "get past your plateau"typa thing than anything else when looking to drop that last 2-3 percent bf that you struggling with

I get what you saying about fad yes-sorry when i research FAD all types of crazy sh!t pops up lol

Absolutely, it's called Cho-less-terol by Holistix. You take one three times a day, and then add garlic tablets @600mg per day extra. There is already garlic in the Cho-less-terol, but not enough.

Was reading around now and seen that my refeed is on Sunday do I have to train on that day? My gym is closed and ill have limited access to weights?

Or is the training on refeed day not mandatory? If it is will cardio help with full depletion if I do functional body training?

Highly doubt you are in ketosis already on day 2. Some people take around 3 weeks to fully hit ketosis

Pyro- replenish glycogen stores, and I had a carb up of 300g spread throughout the day until late afternoon consisting of brown rice and oats and a kind of cheat with 2 pieces of Lindt 85% dark chocolate

@ABC some ppl hits ketosis on their 1st day on a keto diet,its not unheard of,but I think even in cases when you're not in ketosis what actually matters is the calorie deficit which for me was abit more important just in case I wasn't in ketosis.. What's your take on it?

I managed to train yesterday so I done a full body workout,abt 8 sets of 8 reps per body part @ 50% of my 1RM

Had 50g oats before I trained.. Interestingly throughout the day I never once felt the carbs and still kinda felt like I was during the week until abt late afternoon when I got kinda full andbloated of my last carb meal then I stopped carbs. Had the same metallic kinda taste,dry mouth, bad breath lol for the whole day too

Pls bear in mind the 1st week was more experiment than anything else and it wasn't bad @ all

Stats before I started was 85.9kgs
Saturday was 82.3kgs

Just mostly water but this week will be the real test and I've also decided steak and eggs will be my supper meal only lol (Got dik of it)

Also will dischem in Canal have those keto stix? Was shopping arnd yesterday to no avail, any advise on where to go? Thanks a million guys

Oh yes.. DJ if u read this pls give your input as well

To replenish glycogen stores properly you should aim at only high GI carbs for the first 24 hours of your refeed, with zero fats, and be sure to get in a full body workout on this day. Further, if you want to do a 36 hour refeed you should do low GI carbs for the remaining 12 hours. Do a cheat meal the day after the refeed. You will need a whole lot more than 300g of carbs (I did 700g at 86kg). Agree with ABC it is very unusual to hit ketosis after one day, but indeed we are all wonderfully unique and anything is possible and get ketostix if you want to be sure.

That's correct, I read that simply shredded article abt a million times over and over just to be sure.. Read a few other articles too of Lyle Mcdonald and by the way it looks he knows his stuff concerning Keto diets. However in my previous post as I said it was more a trial for that week, so since last week up until now I haven't had my refeed yet ill have it this Sunday and i will do a proper sitting of around same amount carbs as u had. What was your end result weight and bf if I may ask?

On the upside of things Im weighing 81.1kg's and thus far not so much muscle loss but there is abit gone, my body's recomp is looking better already,more definition all over and its quite exciting to see these changes.hopefully I can hold out the diet until I'm around 8 percent bf to start my 1st cycle, and these damn ppl @ Dischem don't know what ketostix are!!! Any other name that will be familiar to them?

I lost quite a bit of fat in the first three weeks without a refeed, but with these big refeeds my body bulks and does not lose fat nicely. Hence why I changed my re feeds to a proper cheat meal, and carbs before every workout. This is known as targeted keto.

I'm weighing in @ 80.5kg's now as of today, some motivation for me to not pig out!!

I'm liking this steak and eggs thing TBH and it def works, my refeed is Sunday coming and even though carbs are gonna make me feel like crap I'm gonna cheat myself to death with some ice cream,chocolates and fruit lol

Thought ill update this

Weighing 79kgs as of today which I'm abit excited about
Reason is not for the weight though but more for the body recomp,I might be wrong or hallucinating but it looks as if I put on a slight bit of muscle coz my bf is surely dropping but I look a tad bit better in the legs,concentrating hard there

Started this abt a month ago and down from 85.9kg's (I think) to 79.7kgs
I'd probably have to be around 75kgs to get to my goal
Will see what happens when I start the clen and yohimbine but ill only start when I see a stall,so far so good :)
