Nuts! Nuts! Nuts! was created by bms
Hi guys

Which nuts are appropriate for a keto diet?

Maybe this was asked before, if it was I'm sorry. I've seen the following suggestions
1. Almonds
2. Macadamia nuts

How about Cashews roasted and salted? I've yet to see guys including cashews on the keto. Is it because that cashews are high in carbs?

Thanks guys

See cashews have the least fat of the options, but merely an observation.
I see no reason to exclude it. Although perhaps raw would be better...
Salted is fine when on keto, help keep some water ;)

When it hurts... That's when i start counting, because that's when it starts to count.

For the staple of your diet yes. Once you are in deep ketosis and you crave some cashews then you can have some on occasion. What was the Whatsapp message about?

I personally use Macadamia, but there is a farm about 30km from my house so I get them at a good price.

But to be honest... If you are not exceeding your carb limit or pushing the protein too high, I see no reason why peanuts would not get the job done.

Just watch the Macros and total calories.

I did the calculations with cashews and the macros were still on point. Just had to adjust a few things to get it right.

I buy the nuts at the montagu shop, the macadamia nuts don't come in a 1kg only almonds and cashews. Never really checked on the other type of nuts.

What is important for keto is not the total amount of carbs but rather the net carbs. Basically the total carbs minus fibre as fibre is not digested. For example when you compare the total carbs of cashews and almonds then it seems like almonds are losing, and then you take into account that almonds have 15g fibre and cashews 3g per 100g, then the story changes. It i also important to note that of the net carbs in nuts, a substantial amount of those is sugar depending on which nut you are using. For example 100g of cashew nuts have 6g of sugar in them. Almonds have half that.

Pyro I have to ask... What do you do for a living? You must somehow be involved in nutrition?

To be honest i know very little of keto diets themselves but funny enough while i was doing the whole "nut" stack, i came across an article talking about the exact samething you mentioned.. The whole net carb thing.. Actually very interesting.

Thanks for the insight tho, you are really clued up with keto diets.
