Good day Gents,

Not sure if the Topic is suitable for this section, but I have a curiosity

My brother in law wanted to start a cycle, but I shut him down harshly, cause he's only 19, is a diabetic and ends up in hospital for the smallest illness/injuries. Also not disciplined enough at the moment, even if he was not diabetic. He is struggling with depression due to the obstacles he has to overcome and he wants to build muscle.

Does any of you have knowledge regarding training a diabetic person. We diet to accomplish keto, but this is what can end a diabetic persons life. I've seen him drop 10kg and dehydrate in a nights time if he got a simple stomach bug . Anyway, with the insulin intake and fast metabolism I am curious how that impacts mass building and maintaining. I know most are going to give the healthy eating and training mockery, but I hope to find someone with some deeper knowledge regarding metabolic rates in diabetes and protein synthesis as well as how to counter that with dieting and training in a targeted manner.

Any takers?

He's 19, he is way to young unless he wanted to make this a career which is already to late.. His metabolism is in overdrive and I'm sure he is super skinny. Yup that does happen to chronic type 1s, when they sick they sick, so don't be messing with more hormones just yet.. He has the advantage of taking insulin, so it's quite simple and maybe what he doesn't want to hear but simply get in the gym smash the session and then eat like a beast and let him rather take and extra 2 to 5 units to keeps his sugars stable but he needs to eat... and train.. that's the recipe for success, literally he is taking a mass building hormone...
