Take aways? was created by m0lt3n
I am kind of between homes and really struggling to keep my diet up to scratch. And sometimes just have to go for take aways. My girlfriend doesnt help at all with this.

So, what food can I make that doesnt need a fridge? Its very frustrating, my veggies will last maybe two days, chicken maybe 4. What can I make in advance, to take to work? I can go to Spar every day?

Also, when you have to get take aways, which is better options?

And I am not bulking..

TIA

Struggle to get lean biltong, but will go for it again.
Ice brick? those plastic cubes? They will last long enough?
I should be getting my fridge soon, never thought I will miss it as much.

And on the take aways? I still believe eating a pie is better than going hungry, but what is the better options?

Nando's :-) Strips and rice :-)Or half chicken with Chunky Mash!!!!
Or Kauai Or even Global Wraps... Gluten Free Wrap.

A pie does not have much good nutritional value/

Give it a shot, you're only TESTing it...

rather get a packet of rice cakes from wool worths, and some lean biltong from your butcher, thats much better than pies, pies are mostly fat cos of the butter in the pastry....if worst comes to worst u can always just get some protein bars and keep those in your drawer at work and snack on those....thats better than pies.

Where do u get your lean biltong from? I have asked for no fat biltong many times, there is always a lot in there. Sometimes I even get chunks of fat in there, the old tannies think everyone likes fat with biltong

Protein powers are very expensive, and hated the taste of USN. I am trying the home made stuff, they work well, but every now and again I am stuck in town, hungry with nothing to eat. I am studying while working while visiting my girlfriend. Each in different town, 180km vs 270km vs 180km. A lot of traveling, so I have to buy some take aways sometimes

Fruit and Veg usually have it sliced. They separate the lean from the not.

I know what you're kind of going through here! I used to only have a bar fridge and the freezer was just pathetic.

Pies are the devil. . .

DJ's advice is good, keep tinned tuna, chic peas, lentils for emergencies, rice cakes. . . I used to live on chicken salads.

I get what you're saying bro, chicken doesnt keep long out of a fridge.

For takeaways go with what Mr SA said, Nandos or Kauai

I happened to look up the nutritional value of MacDs the other day and they claim 15g of protein in one of those little cheeseburgers, haha, but of course a shite load of fats and carbs and crap. I'll admit I love those little things, but then im lucky when it comes to metabolism, my body will burn up ANYTHING

Um, but im scared of needles...

Go to LSJ basicsupplements.co.za for cheap pure whey.
Pilchards are good source of high quality protein that won't spoil and are cheap. If you can handle the taste. Just get some mouth wash to carry around with you :)

haha, don't joke you tried that? My mate told me to do it, thought it was a practical joke, man it was awsome. I think he was shocked too when I told him I actually liked it.

Replied by stark on topic Tentative "no fridge" diet
I have been following this thread with great interest as I am regularly faced with a similar situation where I have to travel around and don’t have access to a fridge or microwave.

Below is a very tentative draft of the first part of the diet I came up with so far. I plan to have 3 parts to it namely training days (shown below), carb up days where I add an additional 115g of carbohydrates, and non-training days where I change the diet around the pre- and post-workout shakes.

The diet is based around 2000 calories, and will be used for cutting, the primary rational behind it is to have it consists out of as much as possible non-perishable food items that can be packed for a couple of days or can be easily obtained from the nearest SPAR or Checkers store.

Could you please give me some feedback on what you guys think of this, and what won’t work, or what will work better?

Brilliant I like that.

I just find tuna very expensive, for myself I will rather buy chicken fillets, cooked they last 2 days easily. You dont have much green veggies there though? You could maybe also add some hard boiled eggs, maybe swop or add to the morning pre workout whey dosages.

Interesting thing I read on evan centopani's threat...one needs the fat from egg yolks to advance muscle inflamation, which one needs a little of to build.

now DJ can say if I am on the right track or smoking my socks...

Currently at about 76 kg, height 1.74 m, with between 15% - 19% percent body fat. My body fat measurements are not completely accurate, but I can visually also tell it is in the high range of that. Been training since 2007, but had a bit of a "forced" break this year with diet and training and the fat unfortunately accumulated while eating junk.
