I kinda like to run a poll on the issue.

Spoke to a guy who is well informed on supplements; said he takes 150g carbs post workout (and he is not a big guy!)

If our goal with post workout nutrtion remains static on recovery, it migt be interesting to see other variables from the members.

Put down the following (and add what you think might be relevant):

Weight: 97kg
Carbs: 48g
Source: Post workout sup - MHP Dark Matter

Sorry guys Apparently it is true, cause its happened to certain people already, so I’m not taking any chances !!

guys that are using WMS post work out, change it over to dextrose or vitargo,WMS doenst spike insulin, yes it may pas through the gut wall faster but has no effect on insulin levels therefore not shuttling nutrients to the muscles, use that as part of a meal replacement rather..

I really don't feel too lekker when using Dextrose that's why I use wms. I feel that the energy is slightly more "stable".

if you are having a solid pre work out meal, and then having the dextrose post work out you shouldnt really feel a slump in energy, but that being said each to their own...

DJ,

I have a major drop in blood sugar about an hour after training. Included some carbs to my last meal of the day (also about an hour after taking the post workout sup).

Would you say my post workout carbs of 48g is too low?

What happens if one trains in the evening close to bed time (within 2hrs lets say), should they still ingest simple carbs PWO?

Yes... As a simple carb will cause the necessary insulin spike you are looking for and help drive the glycogen from carbs and amino acids from your protein source to your muscles.

I agree 100%.

I used to use only dextrose but I use dex/wms mix and I find it better and more drinkable than 100g of dex

The mix is a good idea, fast acting however the slow acting will help regain a better insulin level.

I have done tests on myself and can have my readings right up at 9! For a non diabetic that is high, and that was due to short acting simple carbs messing with readings. I normally use bread after a gym session, yes it can be argued it isn't the best measure, however 2 slices of toast / bread is exactly what I need with a shake of WMS

DJ, I fully trust your methods and im not questioning your knowledge but you often mention how fructose should not be used pwo and I think honey is high in fructose. I may be wrong though.

Depends on diet at the time but:

>60g+ Vitargo
>10g BCAA
>8g Creatine mono
>8g Glutamine
>5g Taurine

And then isolate as my whey source.... Tried and tested many a carb and many a carb ratio and method and Vitargo takes the cake by a country mile!

Peace
