Are raw eggs and oats dangerous? was created by chemically enhanced
hi
i eat between 8 and 10 raw egg whites and 2 to 4 whole raw eggs a day,iv never had a problem until the other day someone told me it can give you salmonella poisoning and other harmful bacteria that usually gets killed when you cook the eggs.
is this true and if so what are the risks?
i also have 2 and a half cups of raw oats a day that i blend with the eggs in a liquidizer.
now this might sound stupid but if you grind raw oats into powder and drink it does it change the glycemic index of the carb?
and is there any difference between eating raw or cooked oats?

I read somewhere that you release the protein in the eggs better if it is cooked also. Not sure on that though.

Would also like to know on the oats, but I think it will absorb faster when finer. Basic chemistry if it applies.
my 2 cents

Yes you are at risk for getting Salmonella poisoning if you eat eggs raw. Also by cooking eggs, the avidin (protein) can't bind vitamin B6 too easily so that you can absorb it better.

Having the oats raw will just have a lower GI than if cooked, if it's finer like you're having it, it should be easier to digest than if you have whole oats.

Risks from Salmonella poisoning can lead to death in the long run (for serious infections) but that will result from dehdration from the symptoms it causes.

I have never run into Salmonella poisoning with eggs. I wash the egg before using it nowadays. I dont think a fresh egg from a supermarket will be contaminated. They also have strict standards.

You could always pasteurize the eggs your self-put them in a collander in some hot water or even water out of the kettle-may cook them a little, but that will help with the protein bonds and make the protein more available
