Mealie Meal was created by jvr
Hi guys

Bought this product by Bokomo today called Kreemymeel. (Picture attached)
Where exactly does Mealie Meal fit in?

High G.I/Low G.I?

Can I replace my Oats with this? (More carbs per 100g!)

Taste really nice with my protein shake too!

Let me know what you think.

If you cutting then I'd avoid.it is a processed high GI type carb.Natural oats mixed with whey is a winner.

The GL (which is of course a more important measurement than GI as it takes into account the quality and quantity of the food consumed) of Mealie Meal is quite low.

Basically anything with a GL below 55 is considered low.

140g ( 1 cup) of Mealie Meal when cooled, has a GL of 23. When hot it is 35. Thats pretty low.

But a cup of Jungle Oats (the original), when cooked, only has a GL of 14 which is considerably lower still.

1 cup of Old Millstream Brown Rice has a GL of 16

A medium sized baked potato has a GL of 18

So to answer your question, pap has a slightly higher GL than the other basic starches, but is still low.

Anyway, if DJ endorses it, it's good enough for me. :)

Yeah any nutritional info would be appreciated so as not to shy off pap altogether but know exactly what it is we are consuming.

DJ appreciate the info. Gonna throw a spanner in the worx here. I was brought up on maltabella and it has sweet sorghum in it. Sweet sorghum is very similar to sugar cane. Its harvested in a very similar manner. This is where sorghum syrup comes from as well. It isn't malt sorry you are right there my bad. Its the sweet sorghum that makes maltabella sweet.its almost molasses like.still a very sugary substance. Sorry my two cents worth once again. Regardless I won't touch maltabella just go with mielie pap.

There is a taxi rank here in Bryanston that makes pap and steak for 25 bucks. Since DJ convinced me about pap, I get it at least 2 x week now for lunch. :P

A huge piece of grilled steak, pap, and the most awesome chili gravy.

I can never chow all the pap though, it's too much.

Now everyone in the office is buying it as well.

Pap and vleis, one of South Africa's best institutions!

Thats the real price. Everyone charging more is a rip-off. Support these guys who make a honest living and shove the R60 Wimpy burger down the franchise-owners throat!
