Ketostix reading was created by Green Machine
Hi Guys,

I recently went onto a keto diet that I made up with all the info I found on the net. I have been on the diet for 10 days now. When I use the Ketostix it only turns dark pink(trace). My questions are, does this mean that I am in ketosis? and do I need it to turn purple to be getting maximum effect from ketosis?

All your input and experience will be appreciated.

I think that its the Bayers brand. On the side of the bottle there is a color chart giving you different levels from light pink to purple. With purple giving you the highest reading of ketosis.

well as long as your daily carbs for the day are only trace carbs and under 30g a day then yes.

That's how I understand the ketostix to work. The amount of ketones in your urine is directly related to the level/state of ketosis you are in - purple being the most.

Ok cool, my carbs are at 21.6 grams and comes mostly from the almonds and peanut butter. Thought I needed to be reading purple in order to be in ketosis. Thank you guys.

also if your protein is to high then u wont be in ketosis, remember maximum of 1.5g per LB of lean body mass...any more will turn to glucose through glucogenisis and kick u out of ketosis

DJ, from my experience you will show trace amounts of ketones, you cannot be in ketones, if nothing is showing up in the urine..

if u wanna test positive on those stick all u need to do is up your fat intake then,if you are having enough fat that u are burning through it and burning up the ketones produced it means u can be in ketosis,if u wanna excrete ketones then up your fat intake...thats all...
