Early morning gym is always better than the evening gym.
In the morning you will be fresh etc , in the evening you will/can be tired from work and not work to your full.

Also find, the gyms are not as full in the morning. So dont have to really worry to much about the needed equipment. Comparing like afternoon

This also depends whether u a early person or not. i get up at 5am .

Feel much beter and fresh during the day.

In a nutshell you should train when it's most convenient for you. Simple.

Any diet considerations concerning pre and post workout meals can easily be worked around, if you have the commitment.

I have also done fasted weight training early in the mornings for months and it's also worked for me, although most guys here will (rightly) emphasize CARDIO on an empty stomach as opposed to weight training on an empty stomach.

What I do now, is get up at 5h30, chug down a protein shake which includes a half a cup of oats and a handful of raisins and I'm good to go.

I get to the gym at about 7h00, do weights for about 45 min followed by 30 min steady state cardio. This seems to give me the right balance between fueling my weight training, and allowing me to burn more fat with the cardio. Within half an hour out of the gym I do another protein shake with a fast release carb.

My first real meal of the day would be a protein/carb one, and the rest of my meals are done as normal.

So, it doesn't really matter when you train, just plan your meals and your day around it.

U are at your strongest in the afternoon at around 5 as u have been feeding your body whole day and are hydrated. So then u will get your best workout, I have done some pretty hard sampling campaigns during day at work and my workout was still fine. Just get in the gym.

I think Jackrabbit has made the comment that he grew best in the morning gym sessions, interesting concept there...then u have the whole day to feed those gymmed muscles.

Both make sense, best time is what suits u, I find mornings to be an effort, I want to enjoy going to the gym. (many threads on this topic)

Yep. just find what works best for you. Personally my strongest time of the day is at about 11h00. Always have fantastic workouts if I can get to the gym at around that time. But mostly it's impossible.

The most important thing is TO GET INTO the gym, no matter what time it is.

I did both and found that training in the evening was working out better as i could eat a solid meal before i trained. The morning session were cool but i didn't have enough energy .

I train in the morning as well, never had time to train in the evenings so I've been doing it this way since the beginning...I have had to teach myself to get out of bed earlier and earlier though, as I believe that you should make sure to get a nice solid meal in at least an hour-45 min before you train (eating just before doesn't do much except leave you feeling too bloated to train properly, plus the food won't even have started to digest yet, so it would be pointless in that regard).

First thing when I wake up, 4:50am, 3 Weet Bix with 2 big scoops of whey and a cup of skim milk. While I'm eating this I throw 2 slices of wholewheat low-GI bread in the toaster and when it's done chuck 1/2 tub of fat-free cottage cheese on there, then right before I leave for the gym (at about 5:45) I grab an apple or something. Seems to be working so far!

It is, bro, but after 3 years of training I still get like a little kid at xmas time when it's time for me to go to the gym so that helps a lot! Plus, on the upside, the gym is much quieter at that time of morning in winter so there's less waiting..nothing worse than going in at the wrong time at the beginning of summer and having to wait for the oke next to you to finish doing freakin dropsets using all of the dumbells from 12-18kg so that you can carry on with your workout! haha

In a perfect world all gyms would have at least two sets of dumbells and 2 or 3 lat pulldown machines...the 2 things I find I have to wait for the most on a busy day! Funny enough we only have 1 squat rack at our gym and I use it twice a week and have never had to wait for it because there's hardly ever anyone using it. But I suppose this is a discussion for another topic...lol

True this. I like the Smith Machine - nice spotter when training partner is not around. Even with okes using it for everything other than legs i hardly ever need to wait.

You're lucky, bud, there's always someone using the Smith Machine at the gym I go to. I don't like using it for anything other than bb shrugs, as exercises like squats and bench presses don't really work in a straight line since they're multi-joint movements. If I don't have a spotter I just move a flat bench to the squat rack and do bench presses there. I get a few odd looks but it does the job! :)

We also only have one squat rack in our gym, it's a Virgin Active thing, they just hate hard core weight trainers. The thing that freaks me out the most is when I want to squat and have to wait for some arsehole doing barbell curls in the squat rack.
That has to be the most irritating breach of gym etiquette ever! And it happens everyday.
