Bulk or cut? was created by David.biohazard
Hi Guys

I know DJ is going to be on this one in a Flash and yes I am going to get a diet from Dj but just wanted to know from others out there that have had the experience of competing, something I have never done but am very keen to do. The competition I would like to enter is probably April Next year. My question is, is it better to Bulk more first or to cut body fat% ? Do you get lean and try add some lean muscle or Bulk as much as possible then cut down? I do apologise in advance if this has been asked before on the forum but just wanted to know what the best would be 10 months out?

Gone with the days of 'mass bulk' try grow lean as you can, bodyfat lowish while you pack on muscle, 10/12% is a great number to build muscle and easier to cut from there... If your diet is right you don't need to get bloated up like a baloon to put on size.. So I would work closely with DJ to get your bodyfat to ideal for muscle growth but easier enough to shred when the time comes..

I eat around 4k calories a week, twice a weak I actually eat around 4500 calories, and i'm getting leaner and bodyfat staying the same, and weight increasing slightly... So yes, you can grow muscle and cut at the same time..

@David, losing 30kgs is a crazy, and that means the person has put on way to much fat... The right way is to diet lean, try keep fat storage to a minimal... You don't need bodyfat at 16%+ to build muscle, then you just simply eating to much and you adding toxins and putting your body under strain..

Work with DJ and you will see what I mean.. You will lose bodyfat but hold current weight, (meaning you packing on lean muscle mass) then you will get changes to your calorie intake to push maybe 200 extra calories and if your fat store increase slightly then you can lower it by 100, and so forth..

End of the day, its a very personal thing and requires allot of attention to get it 100% and is why having someone work with you diet is the best thing...

Or maybe you will lose weight, but it doesn't mean you losing muscle, my bodyfat was low enough for the sum to be hold current weight but lose bodyfat, if I was 4% extra bodyfat, I would be losing weight + bodyfat, but it doesn't mean I was losing muscle.

Well said Pump, there is also the health factor to consider being leaner and eating correctly is key to bodybuilding, Its just not healthy putting on so much additional b/f, not to mention how difficult it is to lose the extra b/f.I believe bodybuilding should be done as healthy and safely as properly, I know that may sound like a paradox but its true.

Yeah I here what you saying, know my BF% not what it should be but working on it. The problem was when I started lifting seriously, I spoke to a guy that was selling me the protein shakes and he was eat, eat as much as you can, KFC is what you need. Although I didn't follow the advice, I still ate and ate and ate. Now sitting with a bit more around the mid section than anticipated. Did some research of my own on eating healthy but obviously not calorie counting and weighing out of foods but glad I joined the forum to meet guys like you and dj who I'm gonna start working with, to get in the best shape of my life. Thanks guys, you keep me motivated and it's awesome to speak to like minded individuals...
