I wanted to know if any of you guys have any advice on the CKD?

I've been on the cyclic Keto diet now for a good two months and have experienced fantastic results. I'm much leaner, have hardly lost any muscle mass and don't feel tired at all which is great.
Having said that, I would like to slightly increase my lean muscle & thickness at the same time (within reason of course).

Have any of you guys had any luck introducing carbs into your pre/post workout on the diet?
Lyle McDonald suggest 50g of High GI carbs 30min before your weight training on the TKD, but can you add this to your CKD without throwing you out of Ketosis for too long. Bare in in mind that I am aiming for end of week depletion and then 24 hour super compensation carb loading. I find I don't lose as much weight if I extend the carb phase to 48 hours.

Lyle also rejects the idea of a post recovery carb meal/shake on the CKD

Any thoughts?

Thanks
M

Hi M. Sounds like you are reasonably experienced and have a good general understanding - which is very rare for a newbie..lol

I think that it varies from person to person regarding carb intake and remaining in ketosis. I know in my case, I have to keep carbs to almost zero for me to maintain a good level of ketosis. I have measured my ketone levels while in ketosis, and after I have had an energy drink, and its amazing how quickly my body throws me out. When I'm on Keto, I use Muscle Marinade Pre-workout that has zero carbs and this gives me a nice energy boost for gym and I don't have to worry about being taken out of ketosis.

If I were you, maybe get some ketosticks and measure your ketone levels to see how High GI carbs effect you & how carb sensitive your body is.

DJ is very clued up on TKD and CKD so perhaps wait for him to respond.

Thanks Stuartf, you on the ball bud, answered both my posts this am lol!

Yup I'm pretty experienced, been in this game for a about 8 years :-) but always looking to broaden my knowledge.

I usually use Jack3D for my pre-workout boost which works really well. As far as Keto stix are concerned I find they can be a little mis-leading at times. I usually base my Ketosis on the metallic taste in my mouth! Then I know for certain. But I agree with you my best bet is to test a few scenarios and see what changes occur.
I'm really looking for slight tweaks as the diet is going good, but being the person I am, of course any advice to get the mostest would be appreciated!! Excess freak.

Ive heard DJ is the diet guru so I will anticipate his response patiently ;-)

Thanks again for your advice as well as the GH pointers.

the problem with trying to stay full on keto as u know is the deminished glycogen stores, so adding carbs pre work out and carbs post workout with creatine should make the muscle bellies fuller as it will drag more fluid into the muscle, glycogen stores will not be overly full though...also there is a big problem with using jack3d that no one thinks of as the main ingrediant for jack3d is a vaso constrictor and that defeats the object really as u want have vaso dialators pre work out...hence the reason why Hany Rambod is so anti stimulant when it comes to pre work out,as u want the body to be able to shuttle as much fluid and nutrients to the muscle during training sessions!!

there will be a new product on the market soon that is a stimulant free product that will supply the body with all the Nitric oxide boosters and amino acids and other bits and pieces which is the way a pre work out should be

Thanks DJ, I will officially stop with the Jack3D.
Makes total sense.

Just to quickly sum up, are you saying that I can include like a 50g carb meal before I train on the CKD diet, as well as my s-compensation carb up in the weekend? And will still tay in Ketosis?
I do go into Ketosis pretty quickly in general.

Let me know when that stimulant free pre-workout hits market as I would like to try it.
