At 11% bf you're pretty lean already so I would probably go towards clean bulk.

A lot tend to bulk first but end up dirty bulking which for me is a waste, you end up putting on too much fat and come the end of the proceeding cut you're almost back where you started.

Rather get a decent diet sorted and clean bulk, make the most of the pre and post workout carbs and get some good gains. When you get to about 15% bf then you can look at cutting, by that point you should have some nice extra lean mass which will mean your metabolism is higher so cutting theoretically will be easier.

If you make gradual weight gains of between 0.5 and 1kg per month then you're on the right track for a clean bulk without adding too much fat.

If you throw in anabolics then it's a different ball game altogether :)

Just my 2 cents worth

@pump - i want to get to around 100kg with say 8%bf. I want to start another cycle soon, but i am wondering if i should first drop some bf, or can i do the cycle and then drop bf...

Basically i want to know what the experts is doing to reach the ultimate goal. Some guys (old school) recon it is best to first bulk and then lose unwanted bf and repeat process. Most guys today recon it is best to lose bf first, then bulk and repeat.

@ Tremere

Personally I think that you are lean enough to do a cycle and I'm sure if you read through dieting 101 you can see there that it is all about carb timing. You would obviously need to see how your body responds to uping your carbs on a cycle and if your abs disappear you know that it is too much carbs, something that you would need to play around with. Stand to be corrected???

That is what makes a bodybuilder a true bodybuilder, and that is to be simply.....

IMO the days of excess calories and majors bulks has had its time. The really successful guys are the ones starting from a lower BF and slowly building towards their goals.

As an example, I went all ape shit on my off season bulk and I'm now paying for it. Now I've got to diet harder, train harder, do more cardio just to get into the shape before my "bulk" which IMO is time, effort and money down the tubes.

Rather put on 2kg of quality muscle a year and live a decent lifestyles instead of cycling the way the old folks thought.

What I'm working on more than everything this summer is to make my "diet" a lifestyle! This means if you're get to the point where you look lekker and you wanna cheat then go for it but tomorrow is back to your lifestyle.

My 2c worth if it made sense

Thanx vega, I recon that is the route I am going, seeing that I do not compete or anything. Also my rugby days is over now. So I can take my time, eat nice and clean without worrying to much and gain some decent permanent muscle!
