AAS and Prostate Health was created by G-man
Hi Gents - hope all is well:)

A bit about me: I'm 38 and I have been training for around 10 years. I have done about 8 or so cycles mostly consisting out of test, NPP, Winstrol.

As I'm getting closer to 40, prostate health is becoming an area of concern for me. I have had some prostate growth in the past, but nothing too serious and mostly during PCT. There is no past history of anybody in my family getting prostate cancer.

I have been doing some research on the topic but I find inconclusive or opposing literature. Some ideas floating around are that excess estrogen has a negative impact on the prostate and the other viewpoint is that excess DHT affects the prostate. If DHT is the culprit then does this mean we should be careful with androgens?

I am hoping that an experienced user can point me in the right direction or can maybe shed some light on the topic.

The simple question is: Does steroid use cause prostate cancer? Are there ways to prevent the negative impacts of steroid use on the prostate?

From my perspective, I realise there are lots of pros that are on all year round and I haven't heard of any incidents, in the media, where a pro bodybuilder was diagnosed with prostate cancer. I might be wrong...

I look forward to some educated responses.

Cheers,
G

Most men will die with Prostate Cancer not from prostate cancer. By the time you reach 100 years of age the chance of having some sort of cellular dysplasia is close to 100%.

It's a misconception that steroids causes Prostate Cancer. It's like saying the Combined oral contraceptive pill causes Endometrial Cancer. It's a risk factor however.

DHT causes BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia) and this increases the chance ever so slightly of prostate cancer. BPH causes more problem overall than Prostate cancer ever will in most men.

Prevention is key, there are great natural supplements proven efficacious in reducing 5 alpha reductase activity (Testosterone to DHT conversion), such as Saw Palmnetto. Also if you are 40 and above get a yearly Rectal Exam (uncomfortable but lasts a second) along with a PSA blood test (a lot of data is coming out against the use of PSA however it still gives you an idea of your prostate health).

Hopefully this helps. Be aware of symptoms like Dysuria or hesitency on urination, this is common symptoms in BPH.

Hello, agree that DHT variants usually affect me more.

After lots of research on Cialis and its benefits, I have started to include that into my daily routine and have seen much improvement

Do some research on the benefits of Cialis and how that is one of the few compounds that actually reduced the size of prostates in trials.

Hope it helps

Les, does less conversion of testosterone to dht mean that there is less of an anabolic/androgenic effect from the steroid itself?

This is essentially the rudimentary definition of the ratio.
