I know allot about snakes and used to have pythons, boas, house snakes, adders and even a Cape Cobra.

Where are you located?

If you are in the Durban/Natal coast area be careful as it might be a Natal Black Snake (Macrelaps microlepidotus). They are moderately poisonous.

Is it aggressive or not? They don't bite very easily, but you never know...

I am in natal, a town about 75km from durban! It was a really tiny snake, very small black snake! I killed it, got rid of it, i just worried if there will be others around in the house! Will the mum snake be around? The little thing was just wriggling around and for such a tiny thing, had to smack it pretty hard a few times to kill it!

You will be fine... snakes don't live in groups, so the chance of another one nearby is very slim.

If its small, it hatched somewere near. You are bound to find more. I had a Rinkhals infestation about 2 years ago. Found the first tiny black one squashed in the road. Then another slightly bigger, dead in the pool. 3 weeks or so later i found a live one in the pool - now starting to get the distinct motled look.
I will check around the house tomorrow if i was you. At least phone the snake park to get info.

Snake park no longer exists, Mike Sutcliffe tore it down.

There are guys that will come out, but they will charge you in the region of R350-00.

What you can do if you want to scare the buggers out, is mix some ordinary kitchen ammonia in some water, and use a sprayer to spray it in the nooks and crannies where a snake might hide

Ish poor snake..

Mole snakes are black as well . and they harmless!

But if you found one baby , there are more around..

Try save the little thing next time. Use a pillow case to put it in.

I use to have a cotton mouth and Rattle Snack a few years ago.
Snakes are awesome pets.

Never fraternize with them as equals, never accept them as your social equals or they will devour you, they will destroy you.

I don't really agree on the theory that if there is one there will be more...

Snakes don't form groups and small ones don't depend on their mother at all... in fact some species will even eat their own young like the Cape Cobra.

Most Python mothers will stay with her eggs until they hatch before she will leave.

I managed to get some guys no. from one of the no's i came up wit on the yellowpages, the guy told me from the description that its most likely a little worm snake and i shouldnt worry about it!

@ Admin, i live in an outbuilding above a garage, so I would think for a tiny snake to get into my home would be pretty hard, cant see that tiny bugger gettin up so many stairs to get in...So thats y i was thinkin the mummy snake may be around and there will be more of em around, well i still here this morning, so nothing bit me,lol, so hopefully its nothing to worry about!

Actually, that happens very often with species like the Rinkhals and most Adders as they give birth to live young. One likely gave birth in your area and you were lucky enough to find 3 of them. Young from the same mother often differ in size, so that can be explained. The Rinkhals loves water and often swims in swimming pools and fish ponds as they hope to find frogs and fish to eat. It probably drowned because it was unable to get out. Just remember that the Rinkhals very often fakes death, so never trust a "dead" snake.

The first poisonous snake I caught was a Rinkhals and it is actually a very easy snake to catch, they don't bite as quickly and accurately as the adders, but you have to watch your eyes as they "spit" venom.

The chance of eggs hatching in your house is zero, because snake eggs are impossible to hatch in dry conditions, so unless you have a compose heap in your house you don't have to worry about that.

Admin - thats what the expert said when he came to check - apparantly they even appear in the middle of town and the burbs are no exception. The one i rescued from the pool was very calm and didn even attempt a strike/spit.
I've found skin every now and then as well!
