An Idea for the site,

Was thinking that it would be pretty awesome if there was a private message system on the site, or an instant message system so we could chat live... would this be 2 expensive to implement? the site is already a self contained cms so putting that functionality in wouldnt be such a big job i dont think?

i think they wouldnt do that, cos no1 would want juice sales, pricing, where to get, whos gettin what in, and names bein mentioned etc etc, to go through or linked to this site

That is what facebook is for, sending private messages, etc.. This site is a forum and nobody here has anything to hide because all we do is share knowldge..

there was discussion of it earlier in the site but then certain members of the forum would've been hounded by people and then there is the millions of where can i get steroids messages...

Exactly, why else would u need to private message.. unless it was hiding something, which we don't have to do..

This is a super kak idea. As poor Admin will be haunted by some of the dudes on the forum. As it is when some guys send him a mail they post it on the forum to tell him to read the mail and if this function becomes available then they'll send him a private message also.

Well any forum that does have pm facilities would have facilities within the pm functions as to who you can recieve pm`s from. All you would have to do is create a selection of who your buddies are, put them on the list and they would be the only ones that you would recieve pms from.

and ill send him loads of complaints for all my private messages...

ok point taken, but sometimes some one on one Q & A would be nice things tend to get side tracked in threads... i was only thinking about myself,as i did not intend to hound people just ask some informative questions, yes that is wht facebook is for but then again i dont know any of u on facebook so thats kinda pointless 2,

Implementing private messaging is very easy and the software is already installed, but I disabled it for all the reasons mentioned above. I also want to keep messages on the forum public so that search engines can crawl the site to gather information... that will help attract more visitors and Google is our number one reference followed by Yahoo and Windows Live.

So as you can see search engines are vital for us if we wish to grow and a PM system will cause the forum to lose allot of hits.

It's still a good idea, but not on a website resolving around steroid use.

When ppl talk about "hits" obviously its the amt of ppl comin thru to check the site and more ppl joining this site, the online community grows, but my question is, with more ppl coming in and this site growing, how does it, if it does, create a financial gain to the owner of the site?

Depends on what the sites objective is... For example nobody wants to host a site unless its used, the same here... the more people that are attracked the more worth while the costs involved and time involved to host/secure/maintaine a domain/site like this...

For other sites, its a income if their site is targeted as more buisiness / advertising...

Ok, so basically in terms of having a site purely as a forum or chat site, there is basically no financial gain...So heads up to the owner of this site for keeping it running:)

Unless you have google links added to your site, you get paid per click through your site, this site doesn't have that, 'thank gawd' then you could make some money... thats about it.
