I find what ever Microsoft brings out needs 2 year of running and 3 service packs (later)
before I will risk changing my OS.

Simple rule. Look at Windows ME , NT , 2000

All a load of poop

Never fraternize with them as equals, never accept them as your social equals or they will devour you, they will destroy you.

Don't forget Vista-buuullllshiiit.

Had to get it with new pc and when asked them if I could swop it out for XP, they said sure and we'll only charge R600, which I thought wasn't too bad.
Then they ask me for the disk. So I have to buy the OS for over R1,200 and then pay another R600 to get them to install it. Bastards. So I stuck with Vista and it sucks.

I had a lot LESS problems with 2000.
ME was a nightmare far worse than Vista imo.
I will be sticking to what I have for now:
Vista Biz / Vista Ultimate / XP Home / XP Pro / Ubuntu / Fedora

Aggree with ME/NT (workstation) and Vista but 2000 was a great OS, dual booted 2000/XP for years.....

7 is great so far, vista still fresh in my mind though.....

I find vista slows the system down considerably compared to XP-have had 3 gigs of ram installed and it still runs slower than 1 gig I had on XP system and have to reboot every so often.
Also, a lot of the programs are not compatible with vista-my scanner printer, which is only 2 yrs old isn't compatible with Vista.
The burning software sux and once again the old nero and PowerDVD isn't compatible

Windows 7 is great! works like a dream and non resource hungry. they have managed to get it to run (modified) on a 486.

Vista is very similar to ME in the fact that kernel was coded to a ball of shit and will be pulled just like ME was discontinued.

Don't try use Windows 7 however if you don't have a machine designed for it. I find an overall windows experience score of 5 is recommended out of 7.9 to be considered decent, if you have old hardware stick with XP however note it will come to end of life 18 months there after official release of 7 so we actually don't have that much time with it. Yes Microsoft has extended XP time and time again but can we blame them on the bad design of Vista? :)

Im running Win 7 Ultimate on this laptop.
So far so good... other than a few programs that need patches to run like Daemon tools , Gizmo and some AV software.

I'm not a PC-techie but I work on good PC (two 23"displays, 4gig RAM, 1gig Grapic card, quad Core something) and XP works like a charm. Had Vista on for one day and it was the biggest pot of hogwash ever. It slowed down everything to snailpace, had clashes with some of my programs ect.

Some of the guys here run it and they are happy but I suppose the what you use it for makes all the difference. I will hold out with XP as long as I can or untill 7 is finished being patched and updated. I dont like fixing stuff that aint broken

I always worry about not being able to get updates-my brother had a pirated xp and got a bad virus that got through the firewall because he couldn't get updates.
I suppose could try it. It's just bullshit you buy a new pc and have to put on pirated OS because the standard OS is shite.

You guys suck... lol

I run Mac OS X Leopard on my iMac 24" and I'm getting the new Mac OS X Snow Leopard tomorrow or Monday. From the time I press the on button to the time my desktop appears and ready to use is 5 secs and I've never had a single crash and the only software that froze once was Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac... lol
Actually I've never had a single error message pop-up.

Netro is running the MacBook Pro and I'm sure he can confirm trouble free running on his system.

I'm running Windows within Mac OS as well using VMWare...

I'm with you on the Mac - got a friend in the USA that's a developer and they refer the Microsoft as "The whore of the internet"

He once gave me his laptop with NO anti-virus to surf the net for 3 days and there was not one virus on it afterwards!! Bloody amazing!

Buy and download VMWare Fusion 3. After the installation just fire it up and follow the easy instructions to install Windows like normal. You can merge Windows with the Mac as well, so it will run Windows software like it would on the emulated Win os.
