Karma

Hi Guys,
We had this discussion before and some feel that karma is no big deal. I just need to know if it really is Google that causes the decrease in one's karma or is there a Doos patrolling the streets? In one day I went from 9 to 6. ???

I dont think the google thing was true, they were just playing with you about that. But I'll give you one now and lets see how long it stays there

North Boy it is true, google does decrease karma when it goes down places it shouldn't. I don't know if its 'allways' google, but it does do that...

I wanted to get you going again but.......You can modify only one person's karma every 6 hours.
Please wait until this timeout period has passed before modifying any person's karma again.

Google indexes everything, so when it goes down your 'decrease karma' then the forum removes your karma, it doesn't determine that its a real person or not... Why I said go down places it shouldn't as its code that allows only logged in users to modify karma, but google is smart and goes down places it shouldn't be allowed.

Yes, but google can just as easily increase your karma should it choose to follow the other link. Some win others not...

It's also very easy to spot when google is indexing the website... just look at the number of visitors (guests) and if it is a couple of thousand, then you know google is having a look at the site.

how does goole do that exactly? and what do you mean google is having a look?

Google makes it possible for use to do searches by "looking" through sites and indexing words in its database.
The program is called a crawler bot, correct me if I'm wrong.

Admin can't you look at the karma increases/decreases somehow and see which user is behind this?

I doubt google would have this profound of an effect on only a single user at these staggering intervals...

Its true Google does that to index sites, but agree with N3rd it's unlikely it would have such an effect on one persons karma. And it only seems to be happening lately.

I wouldn't take the karma thing too seriously-I was on another site with similar rep power thing and the guys got so upset about who was getting what and who wasn't it ended in 3 of them getting banned for causing shit and fighting about it.

But agree it's annoying if you making good posts and suddenly getting posts deducted.
