hey jk. ive been doing muay thai for 4years and some mma for about a year. let me start by saying its gonna be HARD work!

first you must also decide if you are going to compete in fights or are you only doing it for self defence and fitness. so it comes down to how competitive you want to be.

if you decide to take the mma seriously your going to have to focus on explosive and endurance training as well as a lot of high intensity cardio (believe me a 3min round is MUUUCH longer than you think ;)) and ill recommend 6days gym (shorter but more intense sessions) with 3days mma training.

if youre not going to compete stick to 4-5days gyming (start off with only3!) along with the mma. when you gym push yourself to take as heavy as possible and leave the cardio cos you are going to get hammered at mma training with that. also, on days you do both (gym+mma) try to space it out as far as possible or you are going to burn yourself out!

as far as supplementation goes, i used eca (before mma training) on and off and it definately helped me with the energy and intensity levels and also ethyl ester creatine before and after with my shakes. also you must up your calories cos you are going to need it. for the gyming part you can use the normal stuff you would if you were looking to bulk and gain muscle.

well thats just what im used to doing and it worked great so hoped it helped a little but im sure dj will know best as to the dieting and sups with such high level of training.

good luck! B)

Hi Bud,

I started MMA training 3 two hour classes a week and was also gyming 5 days a week. After a month...I was burnt out. The MMA training can mess you up, it is hard and explosive. You are gonna suffer as you build up your strength and endurance but you will get there if you persist.

I cut back my gyming now to 3 times a week and MMA 3 times a week. I dont do both on the same day anymore. I have one day(Sunday) that I rest. I feel much better and can cope with this schedule. Take it easy as your body can only handle so much at one time. MMA training is very intensive and you will have to recover properly between classes. You will find that you are using your muscles in different ways and will be sore.

As for the diet...I follow a bodybuilding style diet ie. high protien, moderate carbs and moderate fat. You will still have to keep your food intake up even when only doing an MMA class for the day. This kind of training burns calories like a mother...So have your preworkout meal and post workout meal the same as if you were weight training.

Cheers

Fitness is key :) work on it hard and on your explosive training, too much gym combined with MMA and you are gonna bomb, i did haha :)

To you it may look like I just did a push-up... But in fact, I just bench-pressed the world.

Don't do any MMA myself, but love watching UFC and the Ultimate Fighter seasons (The latest season has just started and it looks like it's gonna be insane!)

Regarding workouts...have a look at www.rosstraining.com

You might find some helpful info there.

Howzit guys

Did my first training session yesterday and I must say im a bit sore today...

How would one hold onto your muscle with all that MMA training? Should one try and eat not so clean as you would for bodybuilding? Maybe add a bit extra saturated fats like animal fats ???

or how would a sample diet look like?

Thanx
