Purchasing an Aircon ... was created by BB_guy
Anybody have an aircon unit in there home?

I need to purchase either a decent portable aircon or a built in unit if the portables are useless.A good portable unit would be ideal to move from lounge to bedroom in the evenings, but are they any good ??

What specs do I need to look for? BTU rating? Anything else?
Lounge area is roughly 5m x 5m

thanx

Most of the portable units work well, but just be careful when purchasing it as some of them have an outlet hose which needs to run outside.

The split levels work well i think a 12000 - 15000 Btu would work well for that size room.

Thanx Bones

That's great, the two that I was looking at are both 12000BTU :)

What would the difference be between "an indoor split" and "an outdoor split"?
Outdoor I guess would be aircon section inside and exhaust outside but no clue about the indoor split, would it have like you mentioned an outlet hose ?

This is what Ive been looking at so far -

Ye, that outlet is what worries me.. I need an aircon in Summer however those dreadful mozies come out, so I can't open a window to run the pipe out. I would need to make a hole in the wall, then I might as well fit a fixed unit. I have tried those things you put water in that is a cooling system, what a waste of money, a big fan would work 10 times as well.

I'd go with the indoor split unit if there is really no need to move the thing about.

Check dionwired as well. U can negotiate a discount between then and game if u play the 2 up against each other
