I got some a month ago - it's an antibiotic, so I got a script.
It's very very cheap and it worked wonders for me - I struggled for more than a year with acne at the back of my head, it's been a bit more than a month now and I'm very happy with the results.

Available only on script. Ask your GP he shouldn't have issues helping you out.

I've found 2 pharmacists who will give doxycycline without a script so maybe you'll be lucky. The worst that could happen is they tell you to get a prescription.

There is a new product on the market which I prescribe for my patients with mild to moderate acne called Clindoxyl.

It's applied topically to the affected areas at bedtime and works wonders as it's a combination of clindamycin(an antibiotic) and benzoyl peroxide.

If acne is widespread it's then advised to use a tetracycline of which Minocycline is the first line amd doxycycline can be used if you can't get hold of Minocycline.

Try to avoid retinoids like accutane/orotane due to the side effect profile.

Thanks for letting us know about Clindoxyl. I just tried doxy for a week and had to come off due to gut issues but I have a gut disorder anyway so it should be effective for others still. I'm going to look into Clindoxyl right away. Thanks again.

Most of the issues with antibiotics are gut related...cramps, diarrhoea, nausea/vomiting,etc ,but it would be okay to use a short course of tetracycline on or off cycle.

The Clindoxyl is preferred as it's a topical treatment so no chance of systemic side effects and it works just as well as the systemic therapies ( provided it's not widespread acne as it would be impossible to smear such a large area ).

You do need a prescription for it, but it's readily available at most pharmacies and you don't need a dermatologist to prescribe it...A GP can prescribe it too.

Hope this helps

Just got me some Clindoxyl. In the UK it's brand name is Duac.

Ryan, how much of the gel is best applied? My only instruction is to apply once a night.

You're spot on chem!

The dosage is to use it only at night, just before bed, and to dab it onto the affected areas...In other words DON'T smear it all over your face as the benzyl peroxide element of it ( clinDOXYL) will burn your face.

Cheers bud. It's for my back but I get what you mean. I just applied a small blob on my finger and rubbed it lightly around the shoulder then did the same on the other side. I will keep you guys updated on how it goes.

Just an update for you guys. Acne is clearing up nicely with this stuff and I'm about 8-9 days in. Hoping by day 14 it'll be gone enough to stop using.

Also had problem with acne on shoulders, back and chest. My doc prescribed Zineryt. It's a lotion containing erythromycin and zinc. It cleared up my acne quite well.
