Supplements for recovery was created by CHAPEL
Hi guys,

Just want to see some opinions from those who use supplements for recovery on what are the best to get. I know glutamine and BCAA etc. But are there other options? I won't use creatine anymore.

I've switched my training to 'cross-fit-ish' workouts, not really though just mostly functional stuff and recovery is hell.

To you it may look like I just did a push-up... But in fact, I just bench-pressed the world.

supplements= waste of money..... well 98% of them.

for recovery i'd say a mix of fast carbs, bcaa's,glutamine, and whey

milk is for babies, real men drink beer - the oak

Looking forward to the answers here. Recovery from CrossFit or functional fitness programming is murder. I am giving the whole CrossFit thing another bash and I'm battling. I absolutely love the training but even with GH my body is getting hammered.

I have started on creatine hcl to see what that does. Interested to know why you have dropped creatine bud?

Excluding the omegas en vits, this works for me. I am currently off cycle and in pct.

1 scoop whey 20min before workout
pre workout (condense on energy lacking days)
bcaa's intra training
3 scoops whey direct after training
glutamine & casien before bed.
b12+bcomp twice a week subq shots before bed

afternoon 40min naps
7 hours sleep at night

Thank you for the suggestions guys, seems to be things I know and use mostly. Oupa does the b12+bcomp help for recovery or just energy?

I stopped using creatine because it can add to compartment syndrome which I suspect I may have.

Elliot Hulse wrote an interesting blog post about the top 5 bodybuilding supplements that don't work. I have to say, I honestly agree with him on this... You can read the article here:

The majority of supplements out there are just a bunch of well marketed crap intended to separate fools from their money. What has worked for me are the tried and tested products, i.e. creatine, a high quality multi-vitamin, vitamin C, B complex, BCAAs, Essential Fatty Acids, and a high quality whey protein.

Something I have been trying recently, though, is Pharmafreak's "Test Freak". I have to say, this stuff is really good. I'm nearing the end of my PCT and I'm still just as strong as I was while I was on. Plus, I've only lost about 2 kilograms of the weight I gained.

My 2 cents

Pre workout : glutamine + BCAA ( Find a high Lucine one)

Post Workout : vitargo/waxy maize with beta alanine, Glutamine, BCAA and HMB

Before bed : glutamine

I think SSN cytoguard is a viable option as it has 18.5g of BCAA, glutamine, HMB etc per serving. What I don't like is it's a propriety blend so u can't see exactly what are the amounts if each ingredient.

I saw last week Rage had a special on Nutritech BCAA buy one get one free.
They also have a new product which I haven't tried which is called Amply post. seems like a decent post workout shake for recovery
