Raw whey shakes was created by spike
hey guys, this is mainly directed at those of you using Basic supplements.

Im using the whey, glutamine, creatine, BCAA and amino stack (a bit of overkill i know)
oh and got waxy maize too

Just wondered what you guys are mixing with and what ratios... Before gym i use a scoop of whey (100ml, not sure the weight of this??) with teaspoon each of creatine, glutamine and bcaa, and after gym the same with dextrose thrown in. No scale at the moment so battling to work out correct volumes.
The taste aint terrible but i wouldnt mind a better flavour, you guys used anything with success? Also found that mixing with milk thickens it out and makes it go down a bit better, this ok for a lean hardgainer on a bulking cycle?
Found the BCAAs add quite a bitter taste so have left them out for a while now...

The amino stack i,ve been taking as 3 daily doses of 3 pills...
Havent used the waxy maize yet

Um, but im scared of needles...

I take 60g whey and 60g waxy maize mixed with 250ml water before and after training. I mix 10ml (measuring spoons) BCAA, 5ml glutamine with 500ml Energade for pre training (I use the concentrated Energade) and the same BCAA, Glutamine mix but with Oros after training! I don't use creatine 'cause it doesn't work with my system.

The milk is ok if its fat-free.For flavour you can add a half teaspoon of ground cinamon, its a powerfull anti-oxidant also.

Seasoning a high carb food with cinnamon can help lessen its impact on your blood sugar levels. Cinnamon slows the rate at which the stomach empties after meals, reducing the rise in blood sugar after eating. Researchers measured how quickly the stomach emptied after 14 healthy subjects ate 300 grams (1.2 cups) of rice pudding alone or seasoned with 6 grams (1.2 teaspoons) of cinnamon. Adding cinnamon to the rice pudding lowered the gastric emptying rate from 37% to 34.5% and significantly lessened the rise in blood sugar levels after eating.

Cinnamon may also significantly help people with type 2 diabetes improve their ability to respond to insulin, thus normalizing their blood sugar levels. Both test tube and animal studies have shown that compounds in cinnamon not only stimulate insulin receptors, but also inhibit an enzyme that inactivates them, thus significantly increasing cells' ability to use glucose.Even the lowest amount of cinnamon, 1 gram per day (approximately ¼ to ½ teaspoon), produced an approximately 20% drop in blood sugar; cholesterol and triglycerides were lowered as well. When daily cinnamon was stopped, blood sugar levels began to increase.

In this study, when rats were given a daily dose of cinnamon (300 mg per kilogram of body weight) for a 3 week period, their skeletal muscle was able to absorb 17% more blood sugar per minute compared to that of control rats, which had not received cinnamon, an increase researchers attributed to cinnamon's enhancement of the muscle cells' insulin-signaling pathway.

If you dont have cinnamon in your post-workout shake, then you are sacrificing alot.

Like with everything in there has to be a balance. I read in a study some time ago that too much cinnamon can increase the risk of some sort of cancer.

This was some time back so I can't remember the details but I found it very interesting because I used to use it quite liberal.

Cinnamon slows the rate at which the stomach empties after meals, reducing the rise in blood sugar after eating.

Why then would a person want to add cinnamon post workout if it prevents high blood sugar, thus an insulin spike.

Tiny you wrote: "If you dont have cinnamon in your post-workout shake, then you are sacrificing alot."

Or maybe I am not understanding you....(couple brewsky's later) :)

Just be careful with cinanamon. Yes it stabilises blood sugar levels but large and excessive amounts can be carcinogenic (cause cancer)

I'd have to check studies for how much is excessive but some sprinkles here and there wont be a problem. You need to worry when taking the cinammon tablets that are on the market for long periods of time (years) cos those may contain a lot of purified cinammon extract. The thing with today's world is that there is exposure to many componds that may be carcinogenic so dont get to worried and worked up just stick to a healthy lifestyle. If you dont mind me asking, what cancer is your family prone to?

Try using Diabeccin (water-based cinnamon extract) with no known side-effects. Diabeccin works by:
1. Improving glucose absorption into cells
2. Improving conversion of glucose to glycogen
3. Improving the action of insulin
4. Acting as a powerful natural anti-oxidant

@ Spike
Have you tasted the casein? God damn thats one of the most awful things I have ever tasted in my life! :X

I get what your saying. My usage is like you said , a few sprinkles here and there. (max maybe 3 heaped tsp) But love to cook with those cinammon sticks :)

No worries.
Well cancer from both sides actually. Dad passed from stomach cancer. His dad died from cancer (not sure what type) And my moms mother had breast cancer that spread to lymph nodes or something like that.

That purified extract you mentioned is that the stuff they marketing to help diabetics ? Diabecin is one of the names I think???

Sorry to hear that. My grandmother passed away from stomach cancer too. But hopefully Im gonna find a cure. Breast cancer is usually genetically inherited due to the expression of certain genes but in men the chances of getting breast cancer are minute so you dont really need to worry. As for stomach cancer, stick to a healthy lifestyle, including diet and keep fibre intake high to reduce risks. But dont stress, just enjoy life

How do you guys mix the BCAA's? I struggle to mix it. I tried it with my PWO shake and that was God awful.

Sorry to hear about your loss BB_Guy. I think Beesting is a Biochemist and works in a lab.

Like mentioned before I drink my pre workout BCAA+Glutamine with Energade and post workout with Oros. Both of these I mix up the night before and by morning everything is dissolved! I don't care much for the bit of sugar in the Oros and it tastes decent!

Are the BCAA in powder form? If so, why not just cap them?

oh yeah, those bcaa's are evil tasting. Creatine and glutamine i can just munch no prob but the bcaa's look like flipping asbestos shavings and taste worst.

Hmmm, i been thinking about just buying some nesquick, not too worried about extra calories, i couldnt seem to put fat on if i tried. i do confess to eating everything and anything i want, whenever i want, and never have put on a bad kilo.
Diet for me is just eating more of the good stuff, more protein and clean carbs, but any calories work for me... Hell im gonna suffer when dieting down for kzn novice!!

Just to ask, i been mixing my whey with milk, full crram milk (i cant tolerate any other)... How bad? I really really love my full cream milk... :(

Anyone else notice how yum delicious the amino stack tabs taste?? Sometimes i consider sucking them for a bit...

Um, but im scared of needles...
