Need some Advice.. was created by HDS
Hi Guys

I started training profusely two months ago.
Age: 25
Weight: 93kg
Height: 192cm

I know as a rule that nothing can replace food but I also know that any sups you use can assist in you obtaining your goal.

My goal is to bulk up and gain some serious muscle. After that my goal is to do some cutting. (Is it true that you cant bulk and cut at the same time?)

This is what i have use at the moment:

-Evox 5XL as a post workout shake. (Is this any good?) www.supplementworld.co.za/brands/evox-5xl-muscle-meal.html
-Mulivitamin
-3000 mg Omega 3 EPA & DHA

I have about 40kg of Dextrose and Maltodextrin lying around in my house that i don't use.

Is there anything i can use extra that will assist me in reaching my goals?
How can i make best use of the Dextrose and Malto?

Thanks!

Go to LSJ's site-http://www.basicsupplements.co.za/products -for good quality cheap supps.

BCAA's and glutamine are always a good addition, along with his amino stack and whey concentrate. A hell of a lot cheaper than you can get it in the shops.

I agree you can't bulk and cut at the same time. Be careful bulking-try make it as slow and as lean as possible as if you gain too much fat you will have to restrict calories too much to get rid of it and lose the muscle you've gained.
Keto diet is one of the best for lean gaining or even cutting while maintaining muscle mass.

Hey bro, welcome.

1. 5xl Muscle meal is good for a mesomorph, if you are a hard gainer then you need more carbs.
I use 5xl and love the taste, results and that I don't get fat, :)

2. Creatine can help you gain faster, use it with the malto and dex you have lying around, and WHAM, 2 birds killed with one stone ;)

Happy training B)

the only thing i dont like about mass gainers is the carb sources that they use to make them, maltosextrin, dextrose etc, thats all gonna spike your insulin, i would be happier if guys made their own mass builders. 60g whey protein,100g oats, 30g peanut butter and u will have 50g protein 60g carbs and 25g fat, which is all much better than mass builders...

like yohimbe said, grow slowely with the least amount of fat gained...

Thanks guys for the replies!

N3rd, can you give me a bit more info on how to use the Creatine with the Dex or Malt? Quantities?
Also, what brand would you guys recommend?

DJ, thanks for the tips. I will definitely try your mass builder once my 5kg 5xl is finished. (Do you mix everything with water/milk?)

Yohimbe, I heard allot of positive things about the keto diet and I'm very keen to try it sometime.
Can you point me into the right direction?

Thanks!

Basic premise of the keto diet is to virtually eliminate carbs from your diet. When you eat carbs it causes an insulin response to manage your blood sugar spike and insulin is a storage hormone, so causes you to hold onto fat.
With a carb diet, your liver converts the glucose to glycogen and this is the energy source your body will run off.
In the absence of glucose, your liver will convert dietary fat into ketones, and this becomes the alternate energy source your body runs off. This puts your body into a state of ketosis, hence the keto diet.

When weight training, one of the problems is that you deplete muscle glycogen from lack of liver conversion to glycogen. So to overcome this, we choose a day once per week to load up on carbs in a single sitting to replace the lost muscle glycogen.

That's the basic premise, to some more research, Google Palumbo Diet, Vince Gironda Cave man diet and Ketosis Diet.

I (and everyone else on this forum) suggest that you use pure Creatine Monohydrate, and at the moment www.basicsupplements.co.za/products sells it the cheapest. Brand doesn't really matter when you are buying it pure. I usually go for the cheapest ;)

Creatine can be used in a loading phase 20-30g per day split over 3-4 doses taken with a insulin spiking carb source (dextrose). I don't see any benefits from this, although some guys do... Its a matter of preference. But mostly its best taken 5-6 grams per day for a month to start feeling effects. I take it on training days only, 2-3g pre w/o and 2-3g post w/o. But I can do this for months on end and still get results because I'm not using it every day, which leads to down regulation of the particular receptors.

Some say 60g of dextrose is needed to illicit a good insulin spike, but I will get fat from this, so I just whack it in my post workout shake (maltodextrin).

There are TONS of info on the web about Creatine.
If you ask more questions around here on basic creatine usage, I'm afraid you might get accused of wanting to be spoon-fed ...

I just scraped the tip of the ice-berg for you, google is your friend ;)

P.s If it was you thanks for the karma :)

Or you could use the home made shake in the day as an extra meal and the 5XL post training and continue doing this for the rest of your life :)

P.S. Great shake DJ, looks exactly like the ones I'm adding to my diet right now, twice a day but with olive oil instead (get it free of charge by the litre).

Sorry if I offend you
