using weight when training abs? was created by candyman
Good day guys and girls..

My question is it a good idea to use weights when training abs?
Ive seen guys use it on the sit up bench and incorporate cable Crunch's in there routine..
How much weight should be used?
How often should you train abs with weights?
I train abs daily,i m just afraid of developing a gut and it would make it hard to maintain the condition of my abs when I get older..

Could you please assist

People chasing PB's and focusing on weight is ridiculous. Focus on the contraction and forcing as much blood into the area as possible.

Go big or go home...

Most of the time an "ab problem" is not because of under developed abs, but because they are hidden.

See it all the time... Oaks swinging around big weights cos they have to have a big answer when someone asks "how much do you bench brah?". If you keep to good form strength should follow naturally... yes there are plateaus sometimes and maybe you need negatives or cheats or a different routine.

I believe in keeping the waist small. so i dont believe in adding any weights. just a good movement. with an contraction on top. and change up exercises. Just keep working. it will get there

Give me the strength to forgive those who curl in the sqaut rack

Your abs, like any other muscle grows when you put it under strain and tear the muscles microscopically when using weights. So your waist will start to "grow" and loose that nice V shape body. If you want to go for that blocky stocky look then use weights! Otherwise stick to Normal crunches, leg raises and those kind of things. And as mentioned above, Abs are ALL ABOUT CONTRACTION!

Jis oak don't give him false info! (just pulling your leg)... But ja, you can contract until you are blue in the face (and I have) if you don't lower body fat (which I haven't gotten right yet) you won't see the abs (so I don't yet).

I personally prefer the "oldschool" body builders V shape over quite a few of the guys with big waists...

Good point. Focusing on squeezing and contracting the muscle is so important for hypertrophy. This is really starting to sink in now. Hard part is keeping my ego out of it when surrounded by a load of be strong fucks at the gym lol.

I would say that some strength/weight focused training (read SOME) will indirectly help with hypertrophy training. To improve my strength is to improve how much I can lift in a hypertrophy fashion which hypertrophy training alone wouldn't have got me there.

The other one is aerobic training. I've noticed a DRAMATIC difference in my gym performance once I started paying attention to my cardiovascular or aerobic system. Difference was night and day.

Sorry for going off topic OP.
