Hay guys

Who here beliefs in fasted cardio ? I just find it a bit scary as your body has been fasting for 6 to 8 hours and then you do cardio with no calories in your system and I just feel that the body would turn to muscle as an energy source

But that's jys my opinion

I think it depends on your goals and your stats. I have 20%+ body fat and fasted cardio is working 100%.
I think you should worry about food as an energy source only once your muscles are being reduced instead of your fat.

Cardio after a workout is great , you have depleted your energy levels and you are not wasting muscle

I am a strong believer in steady state fasted cardio in the morning, and then HIIT cardio after a workout. Mostly depends on your goals, then it will differ from person to person.

What cardio do you have in mind? Generally I'd advocate advice Flex's advice:

I am a strong believer in steady state fasted cardio in the morning, and then HIIT cardio after a workout.

Fasted cardio won't "kill your gains" or "eat into muscle". Just don't be irresponsible with your protein afterwards/ the rest of the day. Even fasted weight training won't effect you negatively; once again if you treat your energy needs alright for the rest of the day. There are actually benefits to doing exercise fasted exercise (no I'm not going to cite or quote sorry :P ).

How about fasted cardio while on a keto diet? And having a whey shake after cardio session?

No problem with that but ditch the protein shake. Rather have yourself a nice Bacon and Eggs. Gives you your protein and fat requirements plus tastes a whole lot better.

I'm of the opinion now that for a cutting regimen like keto, shakes are a complete waste of time and plus all the hidden fillers (sugars!) could be counterproductive.

It all comes down to how many calories you want to burn.

Remember, 1g of fat is 9.2Cal. Therefore to burn 1kg of fat you have to burn 9200 Calories. Now if you're in a deficit of ~500Cal from diet AND you burn 500Cal on diet it THEORETICALLY works out to 1kg every 9 days.

With exercise your metabolic rate increases and with HIIT your metabolism carries on burning long after you've stopped exercising so you actually lose weight quicker.

What you don't want is to lose weight too quickly. This doesn't allow your body to adjust.

If you're 40kg overweight you could easily drop 15kg in a month but the you'll have that Sharpei look. Not ayoba.

But if you're at ~15% and want to drop to 10% it isn't that much weight wise so that you can drop in 2-4 weeks without any hassle.

Rather look at where you are now and where you want to be. Look at 2-4kg per month (of fat loss).

Good judgement comes from experience.

DK said whey, not shakes. But I agree food > supps.

Sure but I don't see the point/ need for protein powder here if it's just cardio and if you don't need the whey to fulfil your macros. When you are cutting you want to eat calories for satiety. Rather wait (at least 30 min) and have your first meal.

I have always thought of Cardio as an extra tool to control you BF%, so you can't always keep your cardio constant. You have to change it to fit with your current goals and your bodys progression.

So if you feel your fat is already too low, and the Fasted cardio is not burning fat anymore but eating muscle. Then do less cardio. Try and see what works best for you.
unfortunately there is no one size fits all =D
