EDDF or German volume training was created by Xpornstar
Hey folks,

I'm looking to change things up a bit and give the super high volume method a go - I see Alan from every damn day fitness has a killer program - guys can apparently not walk or brush their teeth for a few days after doing 10x10 sets for major lifts, and then equally brutal ancillary and isolation work. The plan is to get this done during a pretty heavy dbol, test, deca cycle for 12 weeks - and then go straight into a deload phase.

What are your opinions on the training style - worth it?

Your body may love it, how do you forsee your splits / gym days? Any drop sets in there ? I found lately with being much smaller and using small amounts of gear, I'm doing 3 sets then just dropping till a 2kg is to heavy to move. I'm not packing on size with it but I'm not eating for size. Sounds fun thinking about 10x10 but I might not properly understand how it works.

Here's a link to the program I'm considering.

gymtalk.com/german-volume-training-review/

Its a 3 day/week training routine - which will worry me because I'm a 5 day/week kinda guy... I'll probably use off days for cardio on the muscle group trained the previous day, just to increase blood flow and recovery.

The volume isn't too hectic - it's the tempo that I think is the killer - a timed 4 second eccentric and a 2 second positive....

German volume training works great for chest and legs. What you can do is follow the 3 day a week but incorporate a heavy upper body day and a heavy lower body day to make it a total of 5 days a week. I followed a gvt program twice before. When I did not use anabolics it felt like the 3 days a week was enough. As the total sets/reps gets high on gvt. When I used anabolics it felt like I could go 5 days a week easy. So what I did was add a heavy upper body day and heavy lower body day. Chest and legs had massive change.

Damn, I did a tester today for gvt on legs day, just to work out weights....

It's definitely not for the ego lifters! Squats with a single plate are devastating emotionally. The 4 second eccentric and controlled concentric with little to no rest is brutal. I pushed 10x10 squats supersetted with leg curls and I was in tears, I felt sick after set 8 but momma didn't raise. A quitter! ... The walk to the car felt like a marathon and work wasn't pleasant! Can't wait for chest/back and arms day!

Just as an update, I've been doing GVT now for two weeks and, my God, it's definitely not for the faint hearted or those with low pain thresholds.

I'm finding it almost impossible to get a full session done within an hour (which is available time) so am splitting the load over 6 days to cover all muscle groups.

Trust me, if you think leg days are tough, 10x10 timed sets are a killer. There's no way you can do steps on leg day, and brushing teeth on chest day or arm day just doesn't work out well.

I've had to significantly up my calorie intake for recovery, like 500 over and above my current surplus - if I don't, I'm exhausted.

As far as growth goes, it's early days yet, but I'm definitely more vascular and my jeans tighter around the quads - I'll take measurements after the 4 week mesocycle for confirmation, but I'm expecting from the amount of pain that they'll be impressive.

hahaaha, love it.. I was just speaking to a friend about this, so after reading this thread I decided to try it.. I have done many styles of training, 3/4 even 5 sets, sometimes ending with drop sets, but in all honestly I just have not used this style of training before.. I have at times done insane amounts of sets, but not for all body parts and not for a full week. I sometimes go over 10 reps while I find a comfortable amount of weight as I don't use a partner, sometimes right up to 20, but I'm sticking to the 10 sets.. It has properly fucked me up, my body is in hurting, every part of it is in pain. I'm sure I will get used to it and will have to mix things up but it's been so much fun. I certainly can't go heavier by set 4+, sometimes I'm actually going lighter depending upon the muscle and how broken I feel. I will continue this approach for awhile. Yesterdays one was 10 sets of upright rows, 10 sets of leg press and 10 sets of stomachs, the day before was 10 sets of leg curls, 10 sets of triceps and 10 sets of wide rows. Today I am going to do 10 sets of flat db flys, 10 sets of ez bar bicep curls and 10 sets of front raises (just with a plate). I'm very weak at the moment after my 4 and half hour surgery 2 weeks ago so it's fun getting into a new style of training, makes gym a bit of enjoyable. Thanks for this thread!

GVT great hard ASF workout tried it last year I was in a calorie surplus but the high volume made me lose some weight so I stopped it short. I'm a ectomorph with a high metabolism. But my strength went trough the roof tand my endurance in the gym went up like crazy. Will def do it again when I want cut down and lean out. B)
