HIIT vs Long duration cardio was created by Empire
which do u think is a better option? doing HIIT cardio or cardio over longer peroids of time...

granted HIIT burns less calories but you get your heart rate higher...also what is the definition of high intensity? getting your heart rate up above 160bpm?

what are your guys thoughts?

I would go for the longer as the object for me is to burn calories. Maybe cycle them, do 4 long cardio sessions and 1 High Intensity one. Maybe try the HIT in the morning as it might boost your RMR throug the day more than the longer cardio. HIT to me is aerobics, spinning and activities like that. Hope this helps.

my problem really is that my knees are taking a bashing from the long peroids of walking on an incline on a treadmill,so i thought of busting 20mins on the stepper on the interville training mode and going at it for 20minutes,less damage on the knees than pounding the tread mill...and i hate cycling...i would rather pull my nails off slowely to be honest...

Rowing? Swimmimg? Aerobics will pound your knees more probably and spinning is cycling. You can even try the skier and can work the upper body as well, if you want to step.

Max-Ot is basically High Intensity cardio.... The aim is to increase the intensity of your cardio each time you do it.... Whack that stuff, and whack it hard people.... Only 16 minutes of hell, but you sure feel alot beta afterwards!!

Long for me is 5hours or more at a HR of less than 145bpm, short and hard is anything from 1h30 - 3hours at plus 160bpm. You can always mix the two up by including hard intervals within your "easy" LDT cycles of lets say 10x2mins at plus 160bpm with 5-10mins rest in between.

In the end it just depends how much time you have available and what you hope to accomplish? If it’s purely to burn calories I’d go for harder rides, the easy rides takes to much time.

Dragonfly most of us are BB's 3 hours of cardio would be very catabolic. Unless we eat while we are cycling.

No.. I firmly believe in Max-OT style of cardio.

The idea is to boost your RMR by HIT cardio.
Walking takes to long and the amount of calories you burn is not worth the time.

Google Guerilla Cardio...12 minutes of HELL...very similar to MAX OT style, and the guys at AST reckon that 8 hours between cardio and weights is perfect! There are many ways to skin a cat I suppose:)

Yip, we used to do this in basics in the army, but in stead of resting 10 secs we alternated push-ups and sit ups. I lost 26Kg in the first 6 weeks. Could run like Forest though.

Ya, what I am doing now is 40 minutes low impact cardio (walk for 40 minutes) and then do 12 minutes Guerilla Cardio afterwards...needless to say I am pretty buggered afterwards:)

The biggest problem I have with low intensity cardio is that as a bodybuilder I have for my entire life focused on intense, gut wrenchning training sessions. Doing low intensity cardio feels like such a drag. My personal preference is boxing or kickboxing for 15 to 20 minutes. It provides enough of a rush to keep me from getting bored.
