Need help shaking this flu/cold was created by beemer
Hi,

I'm currently in week 2 of my PCT and picked up the flu/cold 4 days ago - nasal congestion, headache, sore body and feel just crappy (not sure if this flu or cold? ).

Been trying to get rid of it. I do not have an infection so just taking Corenza C and resting.

It looks like I'm loosing all my cycle gains:( . I'm keeping my protein intake up, and taking in about 10g glutamine and 10g BCAA, aside from my normal multivitamins, plus additional Vit C.

Is there anything else I can take to recover quicker from this flu and/or save my gains? :(

Howzit mate,

Thats unfortunate, what your training looking like and how many calories you consuming per day. Your immune system might be a bit run down from the cycle, but training and diet have in the past made a massive difference in what i gained and what i kept. More specifically training post cycle you should attempt to maintain gains as much as possible otherwise you just become catabolic and all melts away.

whats your training looking like, off cycle ?

Hi aspoester,

Thanks for responding. I'm sure my training and diet is good as this was not the cause of me becoming sick. I have kept my calorie intake high while being sick.

What I do need to know is whether there is anything else I can do or take to maintain my gains while recovering from this flu?

Ascorbic Acid (vitamin c). I maintain a dosage of 3000mg split throughout the day everyday. Stops me from getting sick. When I feel the onset of a cold like sore throat etc I bump up the dosage to 5000mg and within a day or two the symptoms subside. I also use multivits and vit b daily.

Try getting some Ascorbic Acid at the pharmacy. Its cheap. Think around R45 for 60 tabs. Klap the dosage at 5000 for a few days and see what happens :)

I feel your pain. Im sitting with a cold for 2 weeks now. Only took the 1st 3 days of the cold off from gym since it was the last 2 weeks of my cycle. Advil will help with the symptoms and extra vit c is also great. Mine has dropped down to my chest and it wont clear completely. I have slight asthma so my lungs are sensitive. On cortisone now so will see what happens.

The 1st few days are normally the worst. After that i feel it is fine to get ack to training but without pushing the cardio too much.

Good luck

@ MCJ - And I thought the 1000mg I'm currently taking was already high. Do you take them all at the same time, or how to spread them?

@ ABC01 - I'm very tempted to train as soon as my head is clear, although I am concerned that the training will lower my resistence and drag out recovery

I just waited for that thick headed feeling to clear. The best thing to do is to hang till the cold clears. I just did not feel like screwing up a good few months of dedication.

MCJ's advise is solid. The vit c helps alot, consider perhaps buying the powder form and mixing with some juice or warm water you can pickup at dischem for really cheap. Also as weird as it sounds, as soon as i start getting symptoms i force myself to do 40min light cardio. It always seems to alleviate the symptoms, and i feel alot better the following day.

Ive got a runny nose atm too, its definitely gotten alot colder in pta + the dry air doesn't help much...

Goodluck bro, I'm sure you'll be good to go in a few days time :)

I upped my Vit C yesterday (to 2000mg - did want to jump to high too quick) as soon as got MCJ's advise, and I feel much better already. Head is clear but nose and ears are abit blocked. I feel abit sweaty but probably because I'm dressed too thick lol.

I'm hoping to go to gym today, and just keep warm after training. Being 5 days out of gym feels like forever!

I've always bought the Bettaway Vit C tables as they're always on special but will definitely look at the powder form - need to save where I can :)

U can honestly bump the vit C a lot higher. Like I said previously I use 3000mg daily even when healthy to prevent getting sick. U also don't need to build up the dosage.

The Vit C I get is 500mg a tab and 60tabs are around R40.

Glad its helping. I swear by it.
