A message from Victor Martinez: "I have decided not to compete in the Mr. Olympia contest this year. A lot of people wanted me to do the show to make a statement that despite all the hardships I went through, I still persevered and did the show. Just showing up would have been a victory was how it seems a lot of people felt. I understand that. But as the contest got closer and I was looking at how my physique was coming along, I had to be very realistic and calculating. I was looking at who I was going up against in the top six. There was going to be Phil, Kai, Branch, Wolf, Evan and a couple others who were going to be at their best. At my best, I am confident going up against any one of them. But the reality was, I didn’t have enough time to be at my best.

If the contest had been three months later or I had gotten out three months sooner, things would have been very different and I would have definitely competed. The reality was, you can’t cram 16 weeks worth of contest prep into seven or eight weeks, at least not when you’re up against the very best physiques in the world and you want to be good enough to beat them! I could have competed, but it would have been half-assed and a lot of people would have immediately seen I was nowhere near my best. I couldn’t go up onstage like that. I have my own pride, plus I would have been letting down my fans, sponsors and everyone else that believes in me. So the next time you see me onstage, you will see the best version of me yet."

To you it may look like I just did a push-up... But in fact, I just bench-pressed the world.

I've always been and will be the ultimate Cutler fan.
Phil has such a pleasing physique and he earned the title last year.
I'm still waiting for Victor to pull his finger out of his butthole, because the day that that happens, he'll be unstoppable.

I think once you break that continuity and you take a year off there's no coming back. He now has to come back and beat the rest of the BBers who have been training that extra year and getting better. Personally if he comes back I don't think he will make top 5.

No lets not deadlift as I need a double hip replacement haha

I would have liked to see Zack Kahn step on the Olympia stage (were it not for his horrible quad injury that he has to recover from). That guy is a beast.

He's by no means my favourite bodybuilder, I just think his injury is quite tragic, and seeing as he has earned his pro card, would've been cool to see him at the O.

I reckon if he can keep that size and add more definition, he's gonna be hard to beat, he's still relatively young and he's a big guy.

I've seen people look worse and compete in the Olympia.

@deetee, I like Kai's work ethic and he sure does come in big and shredded, but I'm not a big fan of his back (funnily enough). To me, he seems ripped AND big in the back, but as soon as he hits the back double biceps, it's as if he loses definition, maybe it's just me  As for his chances on winning the O, it's much higher than most bodybuilders, he will definitely place top 3 (to me, he should've been second last year, Jay was really not that good IMO)

Massive back, yeah, and his definition is great, especially in shots like the one posted by VonD, but it's as if that all blurs out the moment he's in his back double biceps pose, and compared to Phil, his definition is lacking there.

Dohne only ever competed in 2 Tampa Pro's and one Olympia (with regards to pro shows), Zack has done none of these

I respect Ronnie, but I am not a fan of his physique at all. I'll take Yates' physique any day, and Levrone, Antoine Vaillant for a more contemporary reference. I actually don't like many of the guys at the top at the moment, Branch's mentality is inspiring as is Kai's but I wouldn't say I like their physiques.

But I'm going slightly off topic.

That's where you are wrong bud. When the guys take a year "off" they are actually bulking, creating mass and on AAS whilst the competing bunch are doing the opposite. So instead of shredding, Jay will be adding mass which can be moulded later on.

Jay will take another Olympia title, believe me!!

I agree, IMO Jay shouldn't have won the 2010 O either, that one had to be Phil's

I don't like that the Sheru is so close after the Olympia. I don't know if the same politics will be played in its judging seeing as its not an American show, but I don't think they will ever let the Mr O winner take anything but 1st. If fruit is stopping Kai from being Mr O then maybe he could at least get the Sheru. Its a huge pay day, bigger than the Olympia I think?

As for Jay - I don't think he'll even compete again.

This is going to be hard to beat.
