when we have too much test in our bodies the natural production shuts off. What actually regulates the natural test amounts? At what point does the body decide to stop producing test?

The pituitary gland and hypothalamus regulates the amount of testosterone in your body. When testosterone is too low your hypothalamus sends gonadotropin releasing hormone to your pituitary to tell it to release luteinising hormone. The LH travels to your balls where it binds to receptors in your leydig cells that produce testosterone.

When testosterone or total sex hormone levels are too high your pituitary stops releasing LH. So even if testosterone is low, high estrogen and prolactin will also stop LH production, or any other androgen like all the anabolic steroids. Typical negative feedback system.
