I have a KTM 640 Duke ll Super Moto. I love my beast!!! I have had many bikes, nakeds, super, off road, etc….. my Duke rules in traffic, bends and mountain passes. I installed a HID light kit, drive on high beam all the time, since that upgrade I did notice that I was much more visible. Super moto’s are not recommended for long distance. Super build quality, only downside is, KTM - ATM - you need a ATM when she brakes.

This weekend my HD had to go in for a service and the dealer gave me a loan bike, a Yamaha Fazer 1000. And i must say, if you want to strike a happy medium this is not a bad bike. It has very tamed gearing but has the speed of a super bike without the really kak riding position.

The Fazer is basically a detuned R1... Very nice ride.

Still keeping my options open hey Mike. I have been looking at Suzuki Super Motards more recently as the newer 2nd hand ones even fit my budget, and I have been reading various bike forums where people have posed similar questions to mine and have received advice to go the SM route.

ADD: I also like the fact that I can buy parts for a Suzuki that don't have to be strictly Suzuki parts, as with Honda bikes.

I think it would also be a good idea seeing that I also have a car, so the bike won't be my sole means of transport and I might not use it every day - so why go out and spend and extra R10k-R15k on a bike that is only going to depreciate in value over time.

Despite what I've said, I still really like naked street bikes and am still considering them, but I'm definitely not going to rush into buying anything so soon.

Ja thing to think about is are u a hardend biker wanting the latest superbike like the oaks giving advice ? or someone that wants cheap transport and a bit of fun ...coming of a 250 scrambler the motard 400 would be the best choice imo ...u can ride like a gentleman and later like a hooligan on the motard on or off road ...2010 or later model... and then decide if u want to go bigger...or putt putt putt on a superbike until u get used to it....
the new MV Agusta 800 looks cool R129 000.00

Ya I definitely wouldn't classify myself as a hardened biker Mike, so I do think a SM would be the way to go - I can always upgrade after a while like you said.

Thanks for your suggestion bud.

The KTM Duke is an awesome bike but I would not pay 38 thousand for a 200. KTM is way to over priced.

Ya Kyle I must agree it is very over-priced especially for a second hand bike, and I also want to wait until the Duke 390 comes out as it's a little more poowerful than the 200 yet ideal for me. I also saw the Inazuma which appeals to me, but I want something a little bigger than a 250cc.

Can anyone recommend a naked street similar to the Duke 390 that's more affordable?

MK look at maybe a Kawasaki ER-6N. Also an awesome naked street bike

Id personally get a tail tidy for it and it would look sweet, First thing on any bike that should be done is a tail tidy.

The Suzuki B King is an awesome bike, probably out of your price range though.

Shit! Those are awesome looking bikes! Have you had a ride on either of those bikes Kyle, and if so, how are they comfort-wise and how do they perform?

Ya I really like that Baby B-King, but am beginning to think twice about going for a 600 if I just want something to commute on for short distances that will also be fun to use.

I spoke to someone at a bike dealership who suggested that perhaps I should rather look at something like a second hand CBR 250 or a Ninja 250 (or 300), and also suggested a DRZ400 SM if I want to go the super motard route. His reasons were because I just want something light on petrol, but reliable and relatively fast. That made a bit of sense to me as I could buy a newer model for a good R10k cheaper than something like a GSR600, which in his opinion, would be better for someone looking to use the bike as a sole form of transport for someone already experienced with bikes having a little less power than that.

Like I said earlier in this thread, I'm in no hurry and I'm keeping my options open. What are your takes on getting a 250/300 or even a 400 Super Motard for my needs and wants?
